Peaches is a dog that is banned in our county. She is deemed a dangerous dog for killing a cat. Her and her doggie friend escaped, killed a cat, and the owners were only allowed to redeem ONE of the dogs, Peaches was not the one they chose. Normally cat-killers are not something we take into our program as we have enough dogs with no marks on their records looking for a way out. Peaches though is something special that I cannot put into words and if you met her, you would see it too. I truely believe that she was not exercized and not mentally stimulated enough. She was grossly overweight when she came into the shelter and with the drive that she has, it led me to believe she got zero exercize. Her ball drive is almost off the charts. When she sees me come into the kennels everyday she starts shaking and screaming. She KNOWS what I am coming to get her for and she LOVES it. I have been able to successfully have Peaches around cats and she has great impulse control and will allow her focus to be redirected. She listens to a quick eh-eh and has great eye contact, wanting only to please. Peaches is spayed, UTD on shots, microchipped and even licenced. PNWPBR is willing to help arrange transport to ANYWHERE if someone is interested in adopting or taking this beauty into their program. We are located in the county where she is banned and it has left us feeling very helpless and frustrated. She is very urgent so if you or someone you know might be able to help, please email pnwpbr@ .com

OMG she's darling. I love drivey dogs. We're just now checking out a brand new foster home where this girl would be too much I think for someone new.
Have you thought of Law Dogs with all that drive?

Marthina, I will NEVER send a dog to Lawdogs. A dog in Jessups hands is not a good thing IMO.
All of my foster homes are in the county she is banned, the couple that are not have of course female dogs or cats. *sigh*

I think the point is that placing a dog with Jessup may not be in the dog's best interest. I like many other rescues DO think that carefully thought out euthanasia is better than just placing a dog for the sake of placing. If you do not feel comfortable with the home you are placing a dog into, you shouldn't place the dog.

If you do not feel comfortable with the home you are placing a dog into, you shouldn't place the dog. Of course: but not to even want her to see the dog? Jessup begs rescues to tell her about really high drive dogs, and she constantly complains that what rescuers think is "high drive" is nothing but a little playfulness. That's one of the reasons she gives for starting breeding herself. I suspect this is more about Jessup than about the dog.. and most of what people complain about is way offbase, exaggerated or beside the point.

You can ask Ellena why she chooses not to send a dog that, perhaps she has a good reason.

Emily I would be happy to talk to you via pm if you have specific questions or concerns, but in a nutshell, it would not be in the best interest of the dog so in that case YES, euthanasia is a better option.

Elena, I've seen your posts, and I know your opinion of DJ. There's no point in discussing DJ in PM or in public. For some people, she is the devil incarnate who cannot be trusted with any dog and deserves to be held up to scorn regularly on pit bull boards. After all, she DID allow one of her dogs, 15 years ago, to appear in a (now obscure) movie in which he barked at a kid...
By no means do I think she is some kind of saint beyond criticism. But people hold her to standards they don't hold other pit bull people to (GASP she's had DOGFIGHTS!!! GASP she's breeding!!!) And to that extent, much of the hatred/scorn/mistrust for her is hypocritical.

Emily I dont know you and you dont know me so dont ASSume that is why I dislike DJ. Like I said, if you would like to know what my reasoning is instead of being childish on a message board, again the invitation is open.

Things are looking bleak. Thankfully the shelter loves her as much as I do BUT my heart is breaking and im almost to the point where it is time to say goodbye. She LIVES for my visits, for us to go play and run and chase tennis balls. She is caged and that is no live for a dog, no life for a dog who wants to run and enjoy life and instead she is waiting for me to throw a ball because that is the only reprieve she gets. My heart is truely breaking because I do not have any options that are panning out for this girl.

Any luck with contacting local police departments? The police department close by in Reading is re-starting their canine unit, and took one or two GSDs directly from the Animal Rescue League, a local shelter, to train.
