same area, been looking at a place called Rivercrest Apartments in piscataway or Tanglewood Terrace in piscataway. Tanglewood says breed restrictions apply so i'm pretty sure they don't allow Pits. What do you think about convincing them to make an exception? Is it even possible and how would I go about it?

Is South Plainfield an option? A friend of mine lives in a nice complex there and I'm pretty sure they allow dogs. Just not sure if there are breed restrictions. I just texted him to find out the name, I forget what the place is called.

^ It's called Woodland Manor and they allow dogs. My friend said you could use him as a reference, just FYI.

I'm going to show the place to Dep, hopefully she gives it the thumbs up, although from what I saw I think she'll love it. I can't wait to finally get a dog of my own, I can bring him or her to all the events we have. Woohoo....lol

Yup, just need to make sure there are no breed restrictions. I don't think there are size restrictions, was there on Sunday and saw someone walking in with a big black Lab I think Dep will like it, it's a nice place. I wanna move there LOL

I had planned on picking up and leaving by this fall, but "stuff" got in the way. So I'm just biding my time for now. Hope this place works out for you!

IMHO I would try not to go somewhere that mentions "breed restrictions" because someones almost guaranteed to get pissy about something. They might make an exception but then insist on a liability deposit of some kind. Kevin, if you want to foster, talk to Lovey at AHS in Newark. Very quiet, very direct, but he could give you more information about fostering. There are so many pitty variations there, even saving a few...

^ I would NEVER rent some place that didn't specifically ALLOW Pit Bulls. It is a MUST to ask about breed restrictions when renting.
Also, of course Kevin is free to get a dog wherever he wants, but he's an RPB volunteer so I'm sure he'd probably foster through us. (And we WILL be pulling from Newark - just have to get the paperwork filed.)

Yes Kevin you are fee to get a dog wherever you want as long as it is through RBP...LOL
As far as breed restrictions as Mary said it is a must to find out the specifics prior to and get everything in writing!

Hey guys, about fostering, I would definitely foster through RPB.
Well, Dep and I went to the Woodland Manor yesterday to see the apartments. The good news is that it's in our price range and we do like the place. However, while talking about their dog policy the lady said that they don't have any restrictions but they don't really want pit bulls because the neighbors don't like them. I'll be honest with you guys, I'm getting a little frustrated because every place I see that allows dogs also has breed restrictions.

So they don't have a policy but wouldn't rent to you if you got a Pit Bull? Did you tell them you have a reference from a long-time resident?

They feeling I got from her was that they would prefer not to but I think she would allow it with a reference as well as with proof that I would be a responsible owner. I didn't tell her about the reference or talk too seriously about it because she doesn't have any apartments available at the moment. But that's alright because I'm not it in a rush, I would prefer to move in around the first quarter of the new year. I really like the Woodland Manor, but I would like to have some more options and that's where the problems are.

yes that's the way I interpreted what you said Kev....not thrilled about having a pit bull but since they have no policy on the books they would allow it. In any event if you come across a situation like that where they will allow it but are not too thrilled….important to have in writing that not only is your dog allowed but also grandfathered in in case down the road they have a new policy.
