Happy to hear Snorts if out of it and will soon be back home giving you more cuddles and heartattacks! (now THAT is a breed characteristic!)
Chubby is always trying to snarf things up on the sidewalks (twice he's gotten peach pits that I only found out about because they would throw them up in the middle of the night). CHubby's philosophy in life is "Eat first, figure out if its food later" which I'm starting to see is such a pitbull idea.
Still can't wrap my head around Snorts eating a WHOLE sock. Sock bits I understand, but a whole sock?! I can't even figure out the logistics on that.

I can't either. And it was one of Jim's, not mine. Mine, yeah, I could kinda see if he gummed it up first. Jim's socks are the sporty, longer ones. Not exactly tube socks, but close.
I think I'm going to drop in at the vet now. I can't wait till 3:00.

Remembering when we first got Ophie and I found a pile of shredded blue nylon and in another room an underwire band. Next room the remains of a $40 VS bra. She chewed up another one a few weeks later. Not the Walmart specials but the tasty ones rahhh. Glad she didn't ingest them and needless to say I keep tempting clothes away from her. Funny how alot of dogs are into socks...our clothes, our smells, it's logical

We just brought him home a little while ago on a trial basis.
He refused all food at the vet, which is not a good thing at this time. They said to try taking him home to see if his "vet depression" was causing him to not want to eat. So far we've not had much success here. Had to shove his meds down his throat, which didn't work out so well. Going to try again in a little bit. Out of all that we offered, all he took was some buttered French bread that I heated up in the microwave. Now we just have to watch for vomiting and dehydration. If that happens, he goes back.
Now where are the meds for his mommy??

so glad he's home, and hopefully being home relaxes the poor guy enough to eat.

His Nanny is coming today to watch him. Both Jim and I have to work (he took Weds off, and for me to take off is extremely difficult) so we called my mom and she's taking a day off to stay with him.
And as much as I hate how many treats she gives the dogs, we both agreed, "If anyone can get Snorts to eat, it's his nanny!"
We had to think like her when trying to figure out what to get him to eat last night. After all the usuals failed, we said, "What would Nanny do?" That's when I made the buttered bread.
As of 6:15 am, the bread has stayed down.

He's always trying to steal my coffee when I set it down, so today I let him drink all he wanted. It was the first liquid he drank in days. Going to try some breakfast soon and see how that goes.

I'm actually surprised they let you take him home already.

They only let me because he wouldn't eat for them. At that point, they had tried all they could and he wouldn't budge. The longer he goes after the 24 hr mark without eating, the worse off he is. They said they have dogs who sometimes are just there for boarding and won't eat, so they were hoping it was only depression related and not stomach related.
As of right now, he's kept down all that he's ate since 9 last night. He's had all his morning meds already and seems to be doing well.
As long as he keeps food down, he should be OK. Biggest concern now are the intestinal sutures failing. That would be a disaster.

its possible his stomach area is sore still, maybe try baby food and mushy food for now, i know after jesse had bloat surgery and when rufus had his surgery neither of them wanted to eat for a few days due to the pain of the surgery.. i fed them chicken broth and baby food and mushed food for a few days until they started to recover

^ Yeah he def should only be eating soft food for a bit, which I'm sure they told you due to the sutures.

also try canned dog food... it's mostly crap but also apparently crack... that's what Ozzy would eat when he didn't feel like eating his $$$$ kibble. Seriously.. Alpo...

I agree on the baby food. Warmed slightly and watered down with no-salt chicken broth. I know it sounds silly but maybe try to hand feed him this mush? I know when my last dog refused to eat anything she licked this mix off my fingers (wouldn't even eat it out of her bowl, only my hands). Also, yay for buttered bread and Nanny!

Today he had whatever I had in the house that was soft/mush. He ate some yogurt, rice with broth, more warm bread, and some pumpkin. He's not a big fan of rice at all, so tomorrow I'll do noodles with chicken instead of rice. Unless there's a piece of meat in the rice, he's not a big fan and spits it out.
It's been about 24 hours since he had his first post-op food, and there's been no vomit to speak of! He seems to be in much better spirits and was trying to play with Phyllis, to which everyone shouted "Noooo!" and they both looked at us like, "WTF, everyone?"
Right now he's sitting next to me with his head on my lap. And now since I've petted him, he has to crawl onto my lap. Yep, he's feeling better.
Now let's hope he stays this way. I don't need any surprises!

We're going on 96 hours post-op. So far, so good!
He's got a ferocious appetite even though he is not on any anti-emetics. I'm giving him small, frequent, mushy meals that he is thoroughly enjoying.
He's pooping normally without any blood in his stool. We've been averaging 2 poops a day, which is his normal frequency.
No external wound dehiscence and probably no internal either. Based on his stool, energy level, and lack of any bruising or distension in his abdomen, I'd say his internal sutures are holding just fine.
And, hey, now I can say I have 2 $3,000 dogs! Phyllis the Old English White Bloating Bulldog, and Snorts the American SockBull Terrier.

Somewhat bizarre aside re what dogs will eat: Pablo had never been particularly finicky for all the many years I've had him, but has become just a bot of crotchety old man and has decided that the ONE thing he will eat (besides cream cheese and yogurt and of course vanilla ice cream) is semi-most junk food like Moist and Meaty and store brand equivalents. There's an adorable Pit Mix at the shelter I've named Li'l Liz who was all but starving herself till I tried the same trick and it worked like a charm. So never assume that a dog not eating needs better and better stuff. When you just need them to finally ingest a few calories, sometimes the doggie junk food department is the best place to shop!
REALLY bizarre thing more on the main topic: I heard of a Pit Bull that someone had just acquired that was acing listless until it excreted an entire t-shirt. How it ever got the whole thing down is a mystery. How it managed to get it back OUT on its own is something of a miracle, albeit one that most would prefer not to experience unless absolutely necessary!!!!
