Cammie she is a full pit bull, she has recently been having some hip issues, is this common in pit bulls? I was wondering if there is something I can give her to make help with this problem? She is about 2 years Attachments:

I wouldn't say it's common, but it's far from unheard of. Is it dysplasia or something else?

Cammie is adorable. Sorry to hear she is having some hip problems. Is this something that you recently just noticed? Have you seen a vet ? Just wondering if it is arthritis or dysplasia or an injury.

I agree, its important to know which one you are dealing with (is it a structural thing like dysplasia or is it just arthritis).
My boy is about 3ish (adopted, so its hard to tell exactly how old) and he has arthritis. Weight reduction and certain supplements helped him dramatically. But you need to check with your vet if its more serious or not.

Two is fairly young for hip issues. Did she come from a reputable breeder? Are you sure it's not just an injury from playing or exercising?

^It can happen. HD develops as the dog is growing, but most dogs don't show signs of related osteoarthritis until they are older. Murphy was lame from severe HD at 9 months of age, but vet thought it was an ACL injury. It wasn't until months later that we found out how horrible his hips were when I had him xrayed. Then when I took him to an ortho vet at 15 months of age, I found out he also had elbow dysplasia.

I knew a Rottie whose one hip was so bad that his leg looked like it was dangling before he was a year old.

^So sad :-( It's especially heartbreaking when you have a young dog in so much pain. I replaced Murphy's worst hip at 3, it is still going strong now that he is 10. Unfortunately now we're dealing with the elbow arthritis taking it's toll on him.

Thank you for all of the information. I just had a vet take a quick look at her to see what she thought and she said it was probably hip issues, but we wouldn't no for sure until xrays were done. I was just wondering if this was a common problem, she is the sweetest dog!!! I am going to start giving her glucosamine to try and help her out a bit.

Are you sure she's 2? If she's younger, it could be pano. You'd know right away from x-ray.
A friend of mine has a lab who was 2 when he was diagnosed with ED, but he was so poorly bred that it didn't surprise me.
