EDIT: Picture added to page two. Today was a beautiful day so I took Saxon to some trails in the woods (you are supposed to have the dogs on leash and Saxon was on his leash). I usually wouldn't walk him in the woods without Tim, but the weather was so nice that I felt like it would be fun. We were walking on the trails and a small pink ball flew our way, Saxon sniffed at it. Suddenly with a flash of brown and white a Pointer jumped at Saxon. She was growling and biting and it all happened so fast. I didn't really even see what happened it was so fast. It was so scary Saxon's tail was between his legs and he was trying to get away and I was trying to get him away. Then her owner, a heavy set man in a football jersey, showed up and said, "She won't bite, she's just defending her ball." He grabbed her ball and threw it and she ran off after it. He apologized and asked if Saxon was neutered and started making all sorts of excuses about how she doesn't like un-neutered male dogs and she is really protective of her ball and then he just walked off. I was still sort of in shock and didn't realize at first that Saxon had been bit. Saxon was panting and shaking and his tail was between his legs. He didn't even try to fight back during the attack, he was just trying to escape. I took him over to a pond to have some water because he was panting so bad. When I got to the pond I noticed red all over his face. I thought he was bleeding. Then we walked back to the car so I could clean off his face. There actually wasn't very much blood, it mostly looked like blood blister type things. I took him to the pet store with the dog wash and gave him a bath and cleaned all his wounds with antibacterial cleaner and iodine pads. There were a couple of actual wounds on his face and back (the one on his back is a bit swollen), but the rest of it looks like blood blistery things like I said before. He got to pick out a toy at the store and he even greeted a dog as usual (which I was very comforted to see, I thought he might be afraid of dogs after this). I'm still a bit shaken, but Saxon seems to have forgotten it ever happened. He already destroyed his new toy and now he's back to chewing on his favorite antler. Here are a couple of pictures of his wounds: Before we got attacked, it was a nice walk. Here are a couple of pictures from the walk itself: I think he's going to be fine, I'm just keeping an eye on all his wounds for the time being.

Oh sorry that experience happened. it is scary for them. The photos of saxons face on the white part is what my mothers dog Aura does to him every time they play. But that is after she put the bite on him several times. If some random dog did that I would be pissed too. But like you . Once a dog attacked Rocky, I came home called my dad. After talking with him he gave me idea to go back and ask the owner if dog has rabies shots. Dog came out of its yard so I was able to go back and ask. The woman was pretty by that question but assured me the dog had the shots. Then she asked me if Rocky was a female she usually only goes after females she never did that to a male dog. Rocky was ok he too had his tail between his legs. Since he is on guard when an off lead dog approaches and if he is unsure he has a sh*t fit and it sounds pretty scary. Usually warns them off. not always though. He has been jumped a few times nothing bad just scared him. He is ok with dogs but off lead dogs he looses it if he is on lead.

OMG!!! Poor sweet baby Saxon! I'm glad he's okay, but wow. That beeyatch could have gotten his eye or punctured his throat. Total d-bag of an owner, making excuses because he doesn't have his dog on a leash. Please give your sweet little boy an extra smooch and a snuggle from me. Poor guy, just minding his own business and wham!

Yeah it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was when I first looked. It really freaked me out and it still looks pretty bad, but I know it isn't as bad as it looks. It's good to hear that it happens with Rocky during play, makes me feel better. He does have the one cut on his back that worries me a bit because it is a bit swollen. He seems emotionally ok, but I'll be extra vigilant just in case he has a similar reaction to Rocky's. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Clean his cut with peroxide and put some antibacterial ointment on like neosporin.

omg that is horrible.. I'm so glad it was just a few cuts. I would report that incident to animal control or whoever you have. That's b.s. about the ball.. the attacker is a potentially dog-aggressive animal who could do worse to the next victim.

Yeah, I cleaned it with peroxide and put ointment on it once I got home, glad that was the right thing to do.
That's probably a good idea, Em, I didn't want to cause a scene, but I may call AC tomorrow to report the incident. It was pretty scary.

I agree. Report it. If nothing else it'll show that you are a responsible dog owner.

I was just in such shock, I've never actually experienced anything like that before. I'm probably going to call AC in the morning.
Saxon is sleeping next to me right now and he just started boofing and growling in his sleep. I woke him up and told him everything's ok. Do you think he could have been dreaming about the attack? I guess not, I don't think he's thinking about it as much as I am.

Call police too this way if you ever encounter them or anyone again at least they have a report it covers your butt. I had to do it recently. Not sure you saw that thread. Rocky was not touched but the lady and I had words. I called police and they thanked me and said it was smart thing to do. Dogs are not to be off lead in the park. I never called before never felt the need but this time and your incident seems warranted. What if you encounter them again?
Rocky was dreaming after our hike with the group with Maryellen. First time I ever saw him wagging his tail in his sleep. Maybe Saxon was dreaming about. He will be OK.

Poor Saxon! Glad he is acting like his normal self. F*ck that other owner, making excuses like that. If you know your dog is territorial about things like balls, don't leave your dog off-leash and don't BRING A F*CKING BALL!! I agree with the others, call the cops and file a report (who knows, maybe Saxon isn't the first dog that that Pointer "didn't" bite). Big hugs to you too, I know you must still be shaking (I would)!

Soo sorry this happened to that precious boy Saxon and also know how scared you must have been. Glad that he is ok and hope Mom recovers soon What happened to Saxon is a perfect example of why I am so adamant about keeping dogs leashed at all times!

Hope you and Saxon are both ok. ME and emilys is right-report it just to cover your butt. I know what's it's like to be in that situation. One time Dugan and I were out in the yard and he was on his leash. This mentally challenged guy who lives pretty near was walking a few of his dogs and some small to medium size yipper got away and charged Dugan. It all happen so quick and my first instict was to just get Dugan in the house. Didn't see anything wrong with him, but later that night found a place on his side where he was bit(hard to see that kind off stuff with black fur sometimes). This guy lives with his parents and I'm glad he likes dogs and all, but really can't control them and his parents seem like their a few fries short of a Happy Meal. I didn't report it at the time, but wish I would have.

He slept with us last night. He usually sleeps in his kennel, but he was trying to jump up in the bed (which he never does) so we let him sleep with us. He got out of bed and went back to his kennel in the middle of the night. Good to hear that our $500 mattress is less comfortable to Saxon than his $20 dog bed! I guess we move around too much or something when we sleep. I reported the incident this morning. The guy I spoke to said that he had answered one call about that dog (or a similar looking dog) this week and thanked me for calling it in. I'm not ever going back to those trails, I don't want to run into that dog again!

I think he's feeling pretty good today. His face certainly looks much better: And so does his back: He's being really cuddly, too. He's such a sweetie pie:
