If she understands the quiet command then I think saying good quiet and giving the treat is a good idea. And waiting until she is quiet to let her out is a good thing too.

you are doing really good on the quiet rewarding with the food and letting her out after she was quiet long enough, keep up the good work.
ok, how much food does she get at mealtime? does she eat twice a day or once a day and how much for each feeding??? reason i am asking too much food= more poop...... is it possible she is eating tooo much so that she cant hold it when she has to poop?????

Awesome....was hoping I wasn't making the situation worse. She eats twice. Both times she gets three scoops of food, I think each scoop is about 1 cup.

cut her down to 3 1/2 and see how that goes, if she poops less and has no accidents then it was just too much food

Yeah I agree with Maryellen. although it also depends on what kind of food is she eating? And what are the recommendations on the bag. Not to go by them but just to have an idea since all brands have different recommendations. For example for a dog of 75 lbs the food Rocky eats calls for 4 cups Rocky averages between 65 and 70 he gets about 2 cups a day. Although will be starting to cut back soon. However the large breed version of same dog food only calls for 3.25 cups. Does she eat Large Breed food?

Alright, I'll cut her back. last time I decreased her food, she really started looking scrawny... lol. hoping that doesn't happen again....she looks like a black deer! Honey and Bola both eat Canidae. Dang! Rocky eats 2 cups??? Dam, Bolas a pig. He eats about 3-3 1/2 :/ now that hes not skinny looking maybe I'll cut him back too.

I have one question: Is it ok how I am rewarding her for silence? (Maybe Im doing it wrong) When shes quiet for a few minutes (No whining, no throwing herself around) I go in the bathroom (Where her kennel is) drop a piece of hot dog in her kennel (Not saying a thing) and walk out. Is this right?! And Im not letting her out at all unless she is silent. Once shes silent Ill let her out, which is usually a 20-30 minute wait. That's ok how you are doing it, but I would start with smaller increments of time and work up to longer. Like, reward for 30 seconds of silence at first. Even a shorter amount if necessary (don't give her the opportunity to whine). Reward with freedom after 5 minutes of working successfully (no noise). Does this make sense?

Rocky has been doing 2 cups since pup. He was very skinny at one point I had to cut back. Right now he is just at the cusp of needing to cut back. Which with winter lazies we might. Although with doing less training he does not get all those in between treats either. Rocky would eat 10 cups if given too him. I think you are safe to cut back with both of them. A dog of Bola's size should probably only need 1 cup per feeding 2 x a day now that he has gained his needed weight.

Saxon eats 1.5 cups of Canidae a day and weighs 38lbs. We were feeding him 2/2.5 cups a day and he was a bit of a chub.

Lol!!!! Both my dogs are piglets! today they begin starving.....or so theyll think. Foods getting cut for both dogs. Mary-that does make sense!!!! Honeys doing really good. Im feeding her all her meals out of the Buster Cube as well...i think she really enjoys that. Were down to barking fits of 20 minutes or less which is amazing, and no other acciedents! Yay! Shes a good girl, shes just trying to get me prepared for the stink of baby poo and conditioning me for little silence due to a newborn crying and a 3 year old terrorizing. Shes actually helping me out.

I have noticed that dogs' individual food intake needs can be unique, though. Dharma has the metabolism of a race horse and needs 4 to 4 1/2 cups per day to maintain her weight, depending on the time of year and her activity level. She's 42 lbs and doesn't have an ounce of chub on her, just lots of muscle. Lebowski and Barley are much bigger and weigh about 68-72 lbs on average, and they get the exact same amount of food as Dharma to maintain weight. When we got Brandy (the second time, after her adopter had to return her) she was pretty chubby and we have to keep her at a strict 2 cups per day. Even a slight increase makes her gain weight instantly. Otis is 42 lbs and also gets 2 cups.
I guess I didn't really have a point with that, but just thought it was interesting! LOL!

suzi you did have a point! it might be possible that honey needs the 4 1/2 cups a day.. and that her pooping might not be related to how much food she eats, or it could be.. she might need to be taken out more for potty if the cut down of food doesnt change her poop habits of pooping inside

I dunno from measuring food but Ophie is 60lbs and gets 1 1/2 cups of food twice a day plus snacks probably equalling another meal over the course of the day. She also gets a walk and run at least an hour or more every day so she's working off the treats and cat food snacks...but 41/2 cups sounds like ALOT
