I have an Uncle who has literally called EVERY family member I know to tell them that "Sweet little Mhari (I'm 29!!!!!!!) is getting a killer dog....Her neighbors will shun her, people will demand the death of her dog" Of course some of my family owns Rotts and GSDs so my uncles crazy rant went unnoticed. However, I wonder... How many people in your life, be it family or friends, make a big deal out of owning an APBT?
I mean do your neighbors come to your house demanding the death of your dog? Do people literally come out and hiss as you walk past?
Are you terrorized by ignorant idiots on a daily basis?
I'm just curious because I feel like my Uncle will be bringing this up again....

When I first got Pit Bulls, I encountered negative reactions every so often. Nowadays I almost never do. The most recent was about a month ago and I can't even remember the time before that.
You do have to have a thick skin in general though. Because you will encounter negativity at some point in time and it will likely blindside you if you're not prepared. It can be hurtful when the dog you love and consider your best bud is on the receiving end of nasty comments.

I shouldn't let my Uncle bother me... I mean he threw a fit once when my ex was wearing a Chicago Bulls hat and told everyone he was a devil worshiper. So yeah.. He's crazy.
My boyfriend has this natural "I don't give a *BEEP* attitude" that I so wish I had. Some topics I can easily school someone on... But oddly enough I've never met anyone who didn't love the rotts and GSDs in my life. I think because Buddy (My moms baby) starts wiggling his entire body and whines all cute like and then no one can resist his German charm.

It has happened. Just before I picked Rocky up from the shelter. I was warned. Had a few comments prior. And yes had a neighbor who threatened would kill a doberman foster we had. But since Rocky has proven to be a most excellent dog citizen there has been no debate or argument. Many have just stopped trying to argue that Pit Bulls are killers. Occasionally I get comments but usually that person has never met Rocky.

Well, I don't know if this is a negative or not, but my mom hasn't been inside my house since 1993. My family generally accepts my choice and judgement of pets. My nieces, and especially nephews, really enjoy visiting my dogs when they're here; it may be a sort of bravura thing with them, and a couple of my nephews were really into my old Pitpack website.
My neighbors (the nice ones) have never met my dogs hand to head, but they have helped in a recent crisis between the girls, and when I spoke to them afterward to reassure them that they are very safe from my dogs, they were absolutely and totally understanding.
I do occasionally meet people walking that shy away, but it rarely happens anymore. So no, in general I don't encounter ignorants very often. I just smile and move on.

I live in a very dog friendly city and in most cases that also means Pit Bull friendly. Every once in a while someone will make a comment or cross the street. It does still big me, but not enough to make me think it isn't worth it to have my little monkey!

I've frankly gotten more positive than negative comments, but the negative comments do come and they can sting. So you have to steel yourself for them. Don't be a doormat but don't go berserk on people. That just makes you look bad and idiots aren't worth that much energy anyway.

As most people have said, expect a little of both. Your going to have people look at you as though you have brought concentraited evil into your home, but you will also get those lovely little surprises when people are friendly or even excited to meet your Pit Bull.
I've had both happen within the span of ten minutes actually. We have neighbors on either side of us. One of which keeps to himself, has no pets and and is generally neutral-distrustful of most dogs. Neighbor on the other side has a cat, giant Newfoundland of a dog, and various other animals running around.
The second day we had Maxine, no-pet neighbor comes out, asks about the new dog. We tell him she's Shepherd/Pit bull mix. He gets all quiet and runs towards the garage. The Newfie neighbor comes out next with his two grandkids and asks the same things about Maxine. We tell him the same answer about her breed, when and where we got her, etc. No-pet neighbor comes back out, shouts over to second neighbor across the yard to watch the kids because we went and got a half-killer dog.
Newfie's reactions was to reach over the fence, pet Maxine on top of the head and then toss her tennis ball for her, shouting back" Really? Seems like a good dog to me!" The grandkids by this point are feeding Maxine treats and cooing about the pretty puppy through the fence.

My Dad is old n set in his ways so he just KNOWS that Ophie is faking the submissive routine and is going to ultimately eat us all. Then again he doesn't like dogs anyway. Interesting though because I send him pictures with dog and grandkids and even Ophie by herself when she's being photogenic and he shares them with other people. And other people tell him what a beautiful canine and that they have dogs like that too. So at least he realizes pibbles are more popular than he thought.
Our neighbors keep their distance-logical because of the barking Ophie does at other dogs. Plus they see her as the lesser of the two evils I guess. The woman next door has a boy who is ripped. So compared to him Ophie seems more delicate I guess? Know people walk past our houses mighty quick.
We live in suburbia and I've seen alot more bullies among the goldens and poodles so some folks are getting gradually enlightened
