Junkyard dogs???????????

so yesterday morning i drove the dogs to livingston to get my new truck tires put on, then we were going to Best Friends for the Santa photo shoot. at the tire place i told the guy i had to get my dogs out of my truck so the tire guy could put my truck on the lift and put on my new tires.. the manager saw my dogs get out of the truck with me. we walked around mt pleasant ave for an hour, checking out the sights as it was a gorgeous day..
got back when my truck was done, put the dogs in the truck, paid for my new tires, and drove to the Santa pics to meet dave and sedona..

i go back this morning with my roommate as he was getting new tires too, and the manager from yesterday called my dogs "junkyard dogs"... he said he was ashamed to tell me what kind of dog him and his wife had after seeing my "junkyard dogs".... i was like, uh, what kind of dog do you have? he said "standard poodle...... now, i was not happy with him calling my dogs "junkyard dogs", since they are FAR from that, but when he told me his dog was a standard poodle i had to refrain from laughing out loud... not that there is anything wrong with standard poodles, i was actually looking to get one before i got jesse my other gsd since they were more non allergetic for me.... i was very nice and told the manager standard poodles are nice dogs, and i refrained from his comment that mine were "junkyard dogs"... i think he didnt mean any harm in what he said, which is why i just ignored the comment.... but really..... junkyard dogs???? now i know most junkyard dogs ARE gsds, rotts, pits, american bulldogs, but i mean, my dogs dont look anything like a junkyard dog, they wear $70 leather handmade collars and have the best of everything......

Yeah your poor "junkyard dogs"! LOL The only thing I make of that comment is that he is saying he should have a dog like them being a shop owner? IDK

CA the guy was just a manager at a Firestone store, so no yard for any dogs to guard lol

I can confirm that no junkyard dog at this yard ever had a 70$ collar, they're lucky to have a collar at all! They're usually a mutt someone dumped off. They were never vetted, and dog food was likely an after thought. They get to hang out in the shop during the day, and at night they find shelter in the old cars, not a nice warm house.The best deterrence he has had in his yard is a cow.
No pure bred GSD's, Rotts, or APBT! We had a dog once that was likely a GSD, Husky mix... his name was Duke, aka Pukey Duke. He couldn't even scare a cat, if he liked you, he'd sit on the roof of your car so you wouldn't leave. He was also known to puke at your feet, hence Pukey Duke.

Granted, he did have a couple dogs that were more than junkyard dogs. Whopper lived to be 18, she was vetted, and food for her was never an afterthought!


I couldn't imagine even trying to find a response to someone calling my dogs junkyard dogs. I would hope the dumbfounded look on my face would be answer enough!

i think he didnt mean it in a bad way, the best was he was ashamed to tell me he had a standard poodle lol.... i figure he just meant it as a term not that my dogs were junkyarddogs, but it just surprised me to where i couldnt even think of a good comeback at the time lol.... i did tell him rufus was a retired therapy dog, he said his wife wanted to do that with their standard poodle.
yeah, mine sleep in bed with me, or sleep in the other bedroom or on the couch or recliners, have fleece blankies, good food, vet care, coats, costumes, matching leashes/collars lol.... they are like i guess park ave junkyard dogs lol....

I'm pretty sure that this can be filed under "some people can be incredibly ignorant". I doubt he meant anything negative, especially if he himself said he was ashamed to admit to owning a Standard Poodle after seeing them. I think 'junkyard dog' has become a rough synonym for what real dog people are more likely to call 'dogs of power breeds'.

i agree john, i really dont think he was being mean in any way.. yeah he didnt want to tell me he had a standard poodle after seeing rufus and sadie in the parking lot lol.... he said he doesnt tell many people he owns a standard poodle , i guess its embarrassing for him. rufus can be pretty intimidating especially if he stares at someone,and being dark brown brindle doesnt help either.. lets just say when i walked them all over livingston yesterday people crossed the sidewalk to get out of our way lol...

Sorry to keep moving this, I am having one of those days.

And I think this guy just meant that you had tough, "real dogs" and he felt like his dog was a breed of the wuss variety (I think Standards are really cool dogs, dunno why he'd be ashamed to have one). Just a dumb comment on his part for sure.

oh i agree.. he said he was ashamed to tell me he had a standard poodle lol.. then when i told him they were awesome dogs he actually relaxed more,i guess he thought i was going to call him a pansy or something lol
