I cannot get to this article (GGRRRR!!!) as it's password protected, but here is a snippet (this is re: Lennox the dog in the UK on death row):
"For five years, the Belfast dog wardens recognized Lennox as an American bulldog/Labrador cross. Then suddenly they decided Lennox was a “pit bull type”... "
I thought that statement was interesting, and this is something I've said in the past: this desire to name as many dogs as possible "pit bull type dogs" might lead to MORE dogs getting caught up in the evil that is BSL.
Thoughts/comments?

Thoughts/comments? I agree! If there was ever a rescue that had more than enough to do w/o constantly extending the definition of what kind of dogs it takes in, it's Pit Bull rescue! And the more dogs you declare to be "of the Pit Bull type", the more excuses the BSLers will have to extend the range of the dogs they persecute!

absolutely! The AFF notion that somehow calling anything a "pit bull type dog" will force people to recognize how unfair the label is, and therefore give up killing them, is just off. Not only will MORE dogs be encompassed as pit bulls, another logical conclusion is that we can't use the ATTS tests as proof of anything. Since there's no such thing as a pit bull and all... btw: www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=203021846442576&id=151970174851744

In the UK they've always called banned dogs Pit Bull Types from what I've seen with my UK friends. I don't understand why rescues are insisting on using the lingo of those who are driving BSL!

I know it's absolutely ridiculous! Not as ridiculous as Australia banning the APBT but not the AmStaff, though...

by labeling dogs pit bull type it will just feed fuel to the fire for bsl... then anydog that looks remotely like a pit bull type dog will be taken and killed.....
