Chubby's only defense mechanism is to drool enough to leave a slippery trail that could make potential intruders slip and fall.
Thats about it. Honestly, the bf (fiance? sounds weird, lol) wishes Chubby were just slightly more protective only because he does sometimes worry about my safety.

It wasn't drool, but I slipped and went down pretty hard at the shelter today, while handling one of our nicest newbie Pit Bulls, coincidentally.

I am relatively positive that my Ruby would no do anything at all except maybe bark at any commotion. Tho we have never been in any situation to give me any glimpse of what her reaction would be. She keeps a keen eye on joggers tho for the past 6 months or so - rubbernecking after they have passed us, so she has a general awareness of people around us but mostly, she flirts with people on the other side of the street who have no intention of lovin' on her. Makes me sad sometimes to see her looking at them so wistfully.
UPDATE: I tend to get fussy and yell at my husband a lot. Well, he has finally started dishing back some of my own medicine (I don't like it, BTW! :-[ ) So... we just had a little episode where I yelled at him so he yelled at me (he just started doing that and is not a yeller - just trying to expose me to my rudeness/loudness) SO ANYWAY, Ruby just barked and jumped on him when he was loudly in my face. So, now, I sort of wonder what would happen with an aggressive stranger.

I lived alone a lot of the time that I had Blake in the beginning, and I always felt safe, not because Blake would physically defend me, but rather because he is a formidable-looking dog and ne'er-do-wells tend to stay away from his "locking jaws of death" (haha).
I never knew what Blake would do if I were truly in danger, until about a year ago. We were walking down a dirt road in the town we were living in at the time, and from further down the road I saw a friend walking toward us. He and I nodded at each other from a ways off and kept going.
As my friend got closer, he was about 6 feet away when he tripped on a rock and fell forward - almost as if he were coming at me.
Blake did NOT like this. He growled and started going toward my friend in a pretty intimidating manner. I had him on a leash, of course, so it was okay, and I brought him back down, and he chilled right out - but it was an interesting controlled experiment. Apparently, I'd be safe!

After today I realize I have no idea what Ophie would do. If Emmy even hugs me too hard Ophie will try to jump between us sometimes. But today she left me slightly stunned on the ground and didn't even look back...yup I'd have to wing her at the bad guys...

My first, Dominoe would probably bite me knowing how much he liked strangers. My girl Dakota, I am nearly positive she wouldn't try to defend me either, she would likely cower in fear somewhere.
Lincoln? lol Yea he would help the offender if he thought it would help his chances of getting some more slack at home to do what he wants. Hard to estimate where he will end up though, has the personality of my girl and the love for people and dogs of my boy.

my last gsd would bite anyone that came near us that she perceived as a threat to me, i had to be very careful when introducing her to people. once she knew you she was fine.

Benny would definitely have defended me. He growled and lunged at a couple of scary/intimidating strangers. Saxon, on the other hand, not so much. He loves everyone and just thinks of strangers as friends he hasn't been introduced to yet.
