Ellie:
She is doing fantastic! After I sprayed her with a squirt bottle a couple of times, she has stopped her pestering bark. I let her bark at all the outside world things though. So much less stressful w/out the barking. She loves to cuddle up at night, and usually tries to steal Winston's spot, but I won't let her. She listens really well, catches on so fast. Loves to play with Cleveland... I think he is her bff. She is very sweet, sensitive.
She doesn't like to play couch, and will get up if one of the dogs lays on her. She tries hard not to lay on them as well.
No that everyone knows each other, knows their place, I can have the toys out again. No one snarks over them, which is awesome. It is nice letting the dogs grab their chewie bone or whatever and casually chew and play.
I am still not convinced she is part lab. She is long and lean, and has a boo for a bark. She reminds me of a coon hound, or Weimaraner in build. But her face is so sweet. Which is a good thing since she is a counter surfer extreme.
Winston:
He is healed on the outside. I try not to "humanize" what he may or may not be feeling, but it is hard. The last few weeks he seemed down in the dumps, very ho hum. I figured he was still healing inside from the fights, and then having his bff taken away. Is it odd that I worry that my dog might worry about being sent away too? I have tried to reassure him verbally, psychically, that he is here to stay, and that I won't let anything bad happen to him again. Silly, maybe, but he's my baby.
His limp is back. Some days worse than others. I'm not sure what to do. My vet is not set up yet to do treatment that might be needed for him. I'm pretty sure it is his left elbow, maybe shoulder. I'm going to investigate a few vets, but I'm afraid I may have to take him to Omaha or Lincoln. Somewhere that the clinics main source of income does not come from cattle. I often catch myself singing 'you are my sunshine' to him when I think we both need perked up.
Cleveland: He never changes. He is a steady, goofy, rock. He is pushy, he is a ball hog, and he is one of the best snugglers ever. He had a pretty icky break out of his canine acne after Rhett left. I guess it was stress maybe? It if finally going away though. He adores Ellie a lot. They play like crazy pit bulls.
I had considered trying to place him into another home. He is so active, and would do great in an athletic home. I think he'd actually be happier...But, unless he were to go to his prior owners brother... there is no way I can part with him now. This summer I'll get the rest of my fence put in so that he will have more room. I want to teach him how to play w/ a frisbee. I just wish there were some place larger, fenced in that we could go to, but there isn't anymore.
