Just came in from MAJOR zoomies outside with Sedona, she was even running clockwise tonight.
I started thinking about how far she's come. Obviously the walks on Sundays have been almost magically transforming her. But lately she's been greeting the people as her friends more than the dogs. One of these days I'll get video of it. Maryellen sees it. She's often wide-eyed awed at the change in Sedona's demeanor. Sedona loves Dee and Dee really has a place for Sedona in her heart. Sedona often lap crawls with other walkers, too. But she has her dog friends that she likes to socialize with. Apollo is a favorite... and I can understand, he's strikingly handsome.
We stopped at Petsmart on the trip home from the walk Saturday. She did fine. She allowed strangers to approach. But when we got to the checkout, she decided behind the counter was the best place and made herself at home on the clerk's feet. Too funny!
One thing that surprised me was that during the walk, a parade of kids and parents passed us going the other way. Sedona gravitated towards them, and showed a lot of interest in the kids. Amazing, considering that screaming and running children cause her to panic and completely stress out.
Seven months ago I had second and third thoughts about had I done the right thing by adopting her, and almost called Mary to come get her; I felt Sedona's problems were way beyond my ability to help. Today I'm very happy to say that in spite of my lack of confidence and experience, Sedona is well on her way to leaving her old life behind. She fears the outdoors less and less, thanks to her Magic Collar.
When she won't go out, I slip it over her head and it gives her the courage to run out the door behind me. No kidding. It works almost every time.
It's not all about Sedona, though. Having her here has had a very positive effect on my life, and she's changed me for the better. Thank you Mary and Michele for having the confidence in me that I didn't have in myself.
