Okay, I knew that Beneful and Alpo were pretty low on the nutritional totem pole. But I also heard a trainer argue once that high protein is good for like working sled dogs and canines that get daily mega workouts. But that high protein was actually harmful for the average dog. Ophie eats enough variety of people food that she probably gets a fairly good mix nutritionally, but if not Beneful what would be a similar flavor yet healthier?????

I just read the review for Halo. Was window shopping dog food earlier and the salmon flavor-and the artwork on the label-both caught my attention. They said I can return it if she won't eat it and this site says it's pretty healthy. Was looking for a flavor close to cat food which she prefers to any dog food. And Levon and Sushi will turn down cat food for dog, go figure.

Demon was on Puppy Chow for a while right after we got her and she had just horrid gas. So we switched her to Taste Of The Wild puppy I think its the Pacific Stream or Wetlands puppy dont remember but she loves it. She is doing really well on it and no bad gas. We switched her cold turkey and didnt have an issue with the switch. We have a couple of little Boston Terrier Min Pin mixes that are almost 2 years old. The female is always a skinny little thing no matter how much she gets fed. We gave her a little of the Puppy Chow and she started gaining weight and so now the little ones Garnet 11 pounds and Blaize her brother 16 pounds are eating the last of the puppy chow. I know its not great for them but at least Garnet is getting fat finally.

I usually recommend sticking to the four and five star rated foods. I also like grain free because I don't see any evidence that dogs get any significant nutrition from grain. It is higher calorie, but it's also more nutrient dense, so you don't feed as much. At home, my dogs have always been fed prey model raw. I've been in a tough living situation the past few months, so I've had to use a grain free dry food called Go! Once I get my own place again, it'll be back to the raw.

I feed my puppy Nutro-Max puppy food. I have used Nutro for years. Any food that Walmart or Kmart sells is not worth buying.
