maybe you think the legal definition of pit bull is incoherent and vague.
maybe you think it's wide enough to drive 100 types and breeds of dogs through
maybe you think most people can't identify a pit bull
maybe you think that there's no pit bull because.... DNA
maybe you think the shape of a dog's head doesn't predict its behavior
maybe you think that if people didn't say pit bull, situations like Spindletop wouldn't happen
maybe you think if people didn't say pit bull, the hate and the killing would stop
maybe you think if people didn't say pit bull, the haters would agree
maybe you think that most of the dogs identified as pit bulls on petfinder are obvious mixed breed dogs
maybe you think a good percentage of the dogs rescued by "pit bull" organizations are obvious mixed breed dogs
maybe you don't care what a dog is called; you just like the way certain dogs look or behave.
maybe you think the whole "pit" thing is icky and you don't want to know about it or acknowledge it.
You can think all of these things.
But if you think ANY of those things means "there's no such thing as a pit bull", you'd be wrong.
You'd be MORE than wrong. Because you KNOW that for 150 years, there's been a dog called the American pit bull terrier and that the shorthand for that dog is "pit bull".
So you'd be LYING.
Stop lying. Stop playing with words. Stop denying the reality of one of the first American purebred dogs.
Changing the words won't change the hate.
Stop obscuring the important message:
Judge dogs by their behavior, not by their appearance.
Simple.
Judge dogs by their behavior, not by their appearance.
ALL dogs. ANY dog.
