If everyone could hold a positive thought in their minds tonight for Luca, I would greatly appreciate it. He is undergoing emergency surgery tonight for an obstruction in his small intestine. I'm worried about my little senior, and probably won't sleep much tonight thinking about him. Thanks guys.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I know they are helping Luca. I've been lighting candles and sending reiki like crazy.
He came out of surgery last night around 9:30 and had done very well. He had a corn cob lodged in his small intestine - I am really not sure where he got this, or how long it was actually in his stomach before he started showing symptoms. The intestines were pretty beat up, but the dr was able to save them, and she said the overall prognosis is good. The next week will be key.
Risks we have to worry about right now are bacteria leakage into the stomach, and the incision in the intestine not healing properly. But, the surgeon was able to close everything up good and tight so we are hopeful. He is a big, strong, healthy boy. I know he will recover just fine.
Although this surgery was a big deal, and potentially life-threatening, and his recovery is going to be a delicate process, I was actually relieved when I found out what was wrong with him. He went from totally fine, to REALLY sickly in a very fast period - the last time that happened to one of my dogs they were dead in a month due to cancer. Vomiting, lethargy, and refusal of food could be SO many things, and I was in an utter panic. Finding out that all his tests came back normal and the ultrasound showed an obstruction was the biggest "whew" moment I've had in a LONG time.
I'm going to visit him tonight and we'll keep everyone posted. I really appreacite all the well-wishes, and I know Luca does, too.

We saw him tonight. Wow, was it hard....he's really uncomfortable/in pain. The worst part was hearing him whine, which is something he NEVER does. He's pretty stoic. Still not sure when he can come home but should be within the next 24 - 48 hours. Doctor told me he's 'doing pretty good'. This is sooooo upsetting to me, my poor baby.
You guys rock, thank you so much for your concern.

make sure they give you a ton of pain pills for him, as the spot where they opened him up will be quite painful the next few days../

I just spoke with the vet, and her words were, "He's doing really good and feeling good", he's eating and keeping everything down, so I get to bring him home tonight!!! And yes, ME, I'm going to request plenty of pain meds for him. I want him as comfortable as possible.
Oh, another good thing, apparently he hasn't once tried to lick the incision, they haven't even needed an Elizabethan collar on him (of course I'm taking one home for good measure).
Corn cobs are now public enemy number one in my household! (Still don't know where he got it........)
