Hello- My name is Faith and I got my first pit about 5 months ago named lola. Shes brought so much joy to our lives- not to mention how much we've learned about the breed. My better half and I are thinking about fostering 1 (probably not 2) once we move into our new house (which will be next week). We want to get settled first but we love the breed so much and want to do all we can to help them. However i'm not sure how smart of an idea that is. Lola can be tempermental around some other animals. She was "back yard bred" so to speak. A friend decided to get a female to breed with her boyfriends male- not the best idea but we did get lola out of it. Any suggestions on fostering and what it's like? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hey Faith! I'm sure others here will have suggestions, too. But here are some suggestions I have. First, foster an adult male that has been temp tested and shown to be very tolerant of other dogs. Of course, Lola will have to be tested with the potential foster as well. As in all multi-Pit Bull homes, supervision and separation without supervision will be necessary. It's all about management! Make sure you have a firm grasp on what it takes to keep 2+ APBTs in a home prior to fostering. Choose your rescue wisely. A good rescue will work with you through the process of fostering. They will hold your hand through dog-dog introduction and management. Everything will also be in writing (contracts!) and you'll have all your responsibilities spelled out for you. Where in GA are you? Offhand I don't know of a rescue in GA I can refer you, but maybe someone else does. There is always good ol' Petfinder.com or PBRC.net. Or maybe you already have a rescue in mind. Anyway, glad you're here! Welcome!

Thank you! I definately appreciate it! I know of a lady who is a dog behaviorist and rescues pits. She is and has been very helpful for me with lola. I was also told she would pay to supply everything for the foster which is probably the only way we could even take on another financially right now. There is one pit bull rescue in canton- at least there used to be. I tried to find it one day but it had no address location other than someones home. I live around marietta.

Hello Thank you- that is the lady I was trying to find- no one ever answered the phone and the address is a P.O Box :/ They have a "wish list" of things they need that you can donate. I wanted to give a gift card for one of the stores on their website and actually go to their place to give it to them and see if there was any other way I could help since I live so close.

I think that is great that you are willing to do that. I had exchanged a brief email with her a few years ago when I donated money to sponsor one of the dogs she had listed. She seemed very nice from what I can remember. Also Rocky Alexander lives in Atlanta and is a pitbull trainer...I do not know anything about him but his blog is pretty intersesting... rockyalexander.blogspot.comGood Luck!
