NAPLES — The Humane Society of Naples will spay or neuter 50 pit bull dogs for free.
Each dog accepted into the program will also be able to receive a free heartworm test and a free rabies vaccine if needed, which is a total value of about $300 for each dog, according to a Humane Society of Naples press release.
This offer is made possible by community members and private donors who are concerned that pit bulls comprise a major percentage of homeless dogs in most communities, the press release states.
The total value of this service is estimated to be about $15,000, according to Andy Reed, Director of Development for the Humane Society of Naples.
Pit bull owners participating in this program are responsible for any requested pre- or post-operative care costs above the normal routine surgery.
Owners who want this service must call the Humane Society of Naples' Animal Clinic at 643-2143 to make an appointment for the service.
