Took Rocky to the vet to get some shots he was due for. Back when he was 2 he tested low titter for Distemper so he has to get that every 3 years. Anyway while there I reminded that he needs his bumps looked at. Unfortunately the vet was doing surgery but they have a new vet and were excited I would get to meet her. She entered the room and my first thought is she was just another vet tech cause she looked too young. Anyway Rocky turned around and looked her straight in the eye which is how he greets people normally. This girl went white and wide eyed. And said "OH" like she was surprised. I thought OH SHIT is she scared? She immediately looked away from Rocky turned her back and Placed her hands down at her sides. She then asked if he was friendly. Meanwhile the vet tech had been in with us earlier. She then said how she just had a bad experience the other day, she had been bitten on the thigh by a dog that was supposedly friendly and happened to be a pit bull. I then told her Rocky is a therapy dog and she responded oh good and pretty much got comfortable after that. Thank God, but still I am concerned. She then was able to look over Rockys bumps, look at his teeth. (he chipped one) and give him shots although I asked to have vet tech in to hold him while I cover his eyes. He is a strong boy and even smarter then strong, if he even gets a glimpse of the needle its over he will try to take off. So on to the bumps. I finally remembered to have a newer one looked at that my son found. It is ever so tiny and is right where his harness belly strap goes. It is also different and under the skin. So now they are recommending removal again. I think I just want to have tested again. She suggested removing just one bump and have it sent out. She told me how it would be easy probably wont have to put him under. I told her funny cause other vet John, he told me Rocky would now need blood work etc cause he is older and also he would definitely have to go under. This new vet thought Rocky was in incredible shape thats only for dogs over 7. Thats when I told her he is over 7. She could not believe it. She thought his chart said he was 5. I am still going to think this over. And talk with my husband. But I really feel in my intuition that this is something I need to just not worry and let it be. I have more worries about surgery then I do of these little bumps.

I hate bumps. I keep an eagle eye on Clevelands.
I would do what feels right to you. Glad to hear he's in such great shape!

It was weird to have a vet afraid of him especially there where everyone thinks he is great. She overcame it though quickly.

That would have really annoyed me. Vets shouldn't behave that way. It's rude.
Glad rocky'd healthy, though!

my dad said find a new vet. But I like the regular vet and so does Rocky. And this girl went from one extreme to the other especially when Rocky got a shot in the butt and when the tech did her high pitched "oh what a good boy" when the needle went in, Rocky wagged his tail and whacked vet with his tail. She was in love with him and could not help but be amazed with him. She said "OMG he is wagging his tail.

Well I took Rocky to Maryellen's vet today and he said total opposite of what my other vet said back in April I think it was. Back then my original vet was worried about one of the facial bumps because I mentioned it had swelled up at xmas. He felt that could be a symptom of mast cell. and again recommend removal but did not think so much of the one external on his chest which is still quite small. Maryellens vet says he is sure they are warts dog papillmoma virus which is why they are popping up all over. He might scratch them and cause them to grow. As for one on chest could very well be just fatty tumor but to small to aspirate hardly can find the thing. Said I could wait to remove if it grows. I did tell him has been there at least a year with very little growth so he said likely fatty tumor. But If I do remove would be rather simple and he will take off the ones he calls warts while at it otherwise he would just leave be. Anyway first vet surgery 1600.00 this vet 600.00 and that is only if that once he removes chest bump feels it is not fatty then will send for biop. otherwise if it is sure to be fat then only 450.00 with the others removed at no charge. Now I am worse at deciding then before but do feel better about how I felt in the first place.

CA how did you like the staff and how they treated rocky? i can only say dr mike has done 3 surgeries on rufus, each one under $500 , and when he was at vernon vet he always saw my dogs too. he has a good amount of knowledge, and wont make you do stuff just for $$$$$ which is good. you could also get a 3rd opinion and find another vet to give the 3rd opinion then go from there... good luck with what ever you decide!

Susie-Vet 1 had aspirated 1 of the facial bumps which came back fatty. Just a few weeks ago another of same type of bump developed now just below his ear making 3 on face. today the vet we saw said he thinks they may have gone too deep when aspirating because he is rather confident they are warts dog papilloma. The staff is nice they loved Rocky. The front desk staff seem a little distracted maybe still getting into swing of things and they were having a good time. As for the vet tech she was really sweet and explained how I could deduct things from he bill, like the ecollar because he can just be covered with a tshirt. The vet I have been going too was not concerned about the one on his chest much but that one has bothered me a little because it is under the skin and can barely notice it is there. The ones on his face only recently became of concern because I mentioned how it swelled but since swelling went down next day I had not taken him in. Mentioning that the 1st vet was concerned because of a mast cell can have all the hystimine come out through it. Both growth on the face and the even the new one look very same except size. Actually did kind of have 3rd vet look because I did also see the new vet for check up and she did not care for the one on the chest either because it was different from ones on the face. And since one came back fatty on the face and other similar she not so worried. But I do not recall if I mentioned the swelling incident to her and I also had forgotten to mention to vet today but I did call back and leave a message for him. I would love for vet 1 to remove small tumor on chest since so close to my home but he said how difficult he may have to dig and dig and never get anything cause so deep in muscle. But he would try if I wanted.

I read more about Warts, If I am understanding it means that Rocky would have low immunity. Which I wonder now that when he was 3 his titer for distemper came back low antibodies. so he had to get shot. Wonder if there is a connection. If these really are warts then they dont need to be removed but he would need to take some kind of immune boost I suppose. As for the little bump on his chest. After thinking over night I keep hearing it be said can wait to see if it grows. There are some vets out there very few who dont believe in taking off growths unless they are cancerous or in the way of things especially the ones in the eye like Rufus had. Rocky has to go for his Rabies shots in about a month so I feel good we have to go back soon. And I also want to call back vet we saw yesterday to ask about how long to wait for growth is he comfortable with.
