What a fantastic day I had yesterday! I was out checking on all the critters around noon, when I noticed that Riesling, my little blonde bucking, had something hanging from his face. I figured it was hay, so I went over to him to pick it off. Nope, not hay. It was the aqueous humor of his eyeball! WTF?! I snatched him up, let the e-vet know I was on my way, and off we went. I knew the eye was lost as soon as I saw it, so it was no surprise when the vet said it was gone. I had two options: give him a strong antibiotic and destroy the eye tissue, or just remove the eye. I opted for the enucleation. I figured, if it's gone, it's gone. Why wait for it to dry up and risk infection? Just take it. Since Ries is only 4 days old, anesthesia is dangerous. They were going to do all they could to sedate him without killing him. After the surgery, it took 3 reversal injections, but he finally woke up. It was touch and go for awhile after. I came to visit and feed in the evening and they said he was alert enough to go home. They put an e-collar on him, gave him some Tramadol, took a whole month's pay , and off we went. Ries is now living in my bathroom till he is well enough to go back outside. He will be a bottle baby now because mom was not excited about a baby with a cape trying to nurse her. Farming stinks sometimes.

Day 8 after surgery and Ries is doing wonderfully!
Mom took him back 2 days after surgery and he is living outside with her and his brother. Aside from the stitches, it's hard to tell that anything is different about him. He's a bouncy, happy, goofy little baby goat!

yay for baby goat! My fiance wants a goat for the back yard SO BADLY. He's been talking about it 3 years now. Our HOA gets mad if you leave your dog in the backyard too long. They would FLIP if we put a goat back there

Even worse, you'd need two! They are herd animals who need friends. You'd have one "Maaaaaaaah"-ing goat that would surely tick off your HOA! LOL

He's great! He'll get his sutures out this weekend. It's going to be nice seeing him without them sticking out.

LOL One of the groomers at my weekend job has a farm and bought 2 baby pygmy goats that were old enough to be out. They kept going BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH Every time we run out of cheese, which is often, I get "if we had that goat"
