Michele,The new vet was a bit afraid of him. She had recently been bitten by a pit bull. Her aversion was that as well as she just thought it would be easier to remove the other that had been aspirated and tested as well as the similar ones to those and this new one on his chest. She also thought he was much younger. and mentioned older dogs over age 6 or 7 there needs to be more blood work and more risks because of anesthesia is different when they are over a certain age. she told me thinking he was only 4 or 5, Rocky will be 8 this summer.

Our vet and the oncologist she's consulting with have decided that Dharma is not a good candidate for any further chemo. They feel that the damage to her muscles and joints is not worth any potential preventative benefit. We're keeping her on 50mg of benadryl twice each day and aggressively changing her diet, adding supplements, etc. The oncologist is certain that the mast cells will return, but feels that it's likely they would even with chemo, since she developed these only a few months after having finished her first round of chemo. We can deal with the skin and subsurface ones, but the biggest worry is that they will develop internally.
Just absorbing everything right now. Don't want to make any quick decisions, and I think we'll be contacting another specialist.

Is piroxicam an option for mast cell tumors? I don't know, I'll have to ask about that. Thanks!

Here we go again. We had three new lumps checked on Saturday, one on the back left where she'd had several removed already, one on the front left, and one on her upper chest. Interestingly, both leg bumps were normal cyst type things. The chest bump is mast cells. So she's having surgery to remove it Nov 4th. I'm worried that it has spread to her chest, where before it was the back legs.

Mast cells suck! As soon as you remove one another one pops up. I know what you are going through Suzi...same thing with Harley except with her age and other ailments we can't do any more surgery so we are just hoping they are low grades.
Keeping fingers crossed for your and Dharma that once again it has not spread and you can get clean and curative margins. Sorry you guys can't get a break. Hugs to you and D.

Thanks Michele... it does seem like an uphill battle. And I hate to keep putting her under. But I'm too worried about it being in her chest area to let it go.

Cancer can bite donkey balls. There I said it. It sucks massively. I so get what you are feeling Suzi. Everytime we get a tumor (or several) removed off of Chubby, up pops a few more. Its so frustrating because it sometimes feels like a never ending cycle of "oh sh*t, its back-->crap, have to get surgery again-->yay, surgery went great!-->things are really looking up now!-->oh, sh*t, its back-->and so on and so on.
Its exhausting. Try to stay strong and know my thoughts and positive vibes are with you and Sassy Miss D.

Praying for the girlie. It sure does stink to have them go through surgery and feeling good the bumps are gone for them to come back again. How did they test her chest bump with out surgery? was it able to be aspirated? I ask because Rocky has a bump on chest that is small and so far 2 vets cant aspirate Im thinking cause it is small hard to see and feel not too mention keeping him still long enough.
