Thanks Mary and Michele. She had the surgery Monday and did pretty well... only threw up a couple times afterwards. She was back to her normal bouncy self by the morning. Hopefully we will have biopsy results by the end of the week. I'm really anxious to know the grade and mitotic index. I'll post the results when I get them.
Just trying to take it one step at a time. But seriously, F@$% cancer.

Thanks Michele, nothing yet. Probably won't hear anything until Monday at the earliest.
On another note.... I'm getting weirded out by the paralyzed half of Dharma's face. The paralysis hasn't gotten worse, it may have actually improved somewhat. But the skin is tightening up A LOT. She has a little bit of a permanent grimace on that side, and her ear sticks straight up. I think I'm going to make a follow up appointment with the neurologist, just to check her out and make sure nothing else is going on. I'll take new pictures later and post them so you can see what I'm talking about, but it may be hard to capture in a pic.

Vet called with biopsy results and the tumor was very low Grade I with extremely low mitotic index. He got good margins too, so all around good report. The neurologist from the specialty hospital also got back to me today and said her ear and skin are nothing to worry about but we can bring her in if we see any more noticeable changes. She also consulted with their oncology department and said that acupuncture is fine and it won't do anything to exacerbate mast cell tumors. So we are celebrating this small victory and trying to focus on the positive rather than worrying about the next time. I'm trying to do that more in general.

Decided to update this thread rather than starting a new one. I took Dharma to the vet tonight to get a lump checked and it is a mast cell tumor. So, she'll be having surgery on Thursday to get it removed. So far it's the only new lump we've found, but the vet will check her over thoroughly before surgery and aspirate anything he's concerned about. My poor little sweet pea. I'm trying not be down, but I just hate having to put her through these surgeries. Please wish us luck. I'll be sure to post updates.

I was just thinking about you guys the other day. So sorry to hear that you guys are facing this again. Hoping there are no other ones and the one he removes is low grade. Poor Dharma and poor you. Dharma is tough and she will pull thru the surgery ok!
Keep us posted....sending hugs and positive vibes.

Vet called with the biopsy report. The mammary mass was benign, thank goodness. The shoulder mass was a Grade 2 (intermediate) mast cell tumor but he got good margins. He didn't say what the mitotic index was, so I'll have to stop by their office tomorrow to get a copy of the report. Grade 2 is not great, but it's not the worst either.

Very glad to hear that the mammary mass was benign. Fantastic that the vet got good margins as we both know how important that is. Hoping for low mitotic index too!
How is D doing? How are you holding up?
