Saxon and I were on a walk in the park when we heard an absolutely bizarre sound up ahead (you can hear it in the video). My first thought was that it was a frog or bug of some kind, but when we actually came upon the source of the noise it was three tiny baby opossums! Saxon went right up to sniff them and before I could grab his collar and hook up his leash one of the little guys grabbed his nose! Saxon jumped almost a foot in the air! Poor baby dog. I looked all over the place, up in the nearby trees, in nearby bushes and didn't see a mom anywhere. Since it was raining and cold I sure as hell wasn't going to leave the little guys in the middle of the trail at a dog park! So I scooped them up and brought them to my car. Once in my car, I found a purse I was planning to donate to GoodWill in the trunk. I put them in the purse and called animal control. The conversation went like this. Me: I just found three baby opossums in Hinkley Park. AC Guy: Well they're yours now! You should have left them there. Me: It's cold and raining out, they would have died! AC Guy: Well ma'am, sometimes animals die. Not today!! So I called Audubon Society and they directed me to the Center for Wildlife down in Cape Neddick, Maine. It was an hour drive, but well worth it to save the little guys! The place was awesome and the people there were really cool, as well. Here are a few pictures from the day!

I personally am disgusted by these terrifying creatures. I hate them. But I am glad that you found them and got them to safety. I don't know if I would have been able to. They freak me out so bad. lol

I don't think there is anything disgusting about America's only Marsupial! They are really neat critters and they were super sweet and just looking for a warm body. Poor little guys were soaking wet and freezing. I'm not going to leave baby fluffies in the rain, no matter what they will grow up to look like.

I LOVE THEM!
You should have kept and raised them to be Saxon's assistants!

I would have loved to keep the little guys, maybe in another life. They are really neat creatures and pretty cat-like from what I've read.

I'm afraid of possums. It's panic attack inducing and irrational maybe, but after a few run ins with them, this is the result! Like I said, I'm glad you found them and were able to find some place to take them. Just because I'm a chickensh!t over them, doesn't mean I want them to suffer!

Omg they are frickin adorable. I'm not a possum fan but no way I could have left those things. So awesome you helped them, Cat, you rock!
(The ac convo made me laugh, but ac does really suck.)

I'm just feeling ultra sensitive because so many people are telling me I should have left them. I'm really getting upset about it because they literally would have died if I'd have left them. Opossums don't go back for their young if they fall off of mom's back. Their mom was nowhere to be found, that means they were abandoned and I couldn't let them die. I'm just so sick of people telling me that I did something wrong when I saved three little lives yesterday!!!

I don't understand people telling you that you should have left them. Totally beyond me. You did the right thing, and you know it
