Today when Shawn came by to pick up Wrinkles crate, we got to talking about some of the dogs at the shelter. (he recently adopted a female rotty.) He told me about a pit bull they had, but he felt it was too timid, and wouldn't even come out of the back corneer of his kennel.
So I got to thinking about the dog, and texted one of the shelter board members to see if he was still there. (yes) I'm going to call her tomorrow morning and talk to her about coming in and working with the shy/timid/scared dogs. I'm by far no expert, but after handling Rhett, Wrinkles, Diesel, and a few other dogs at Judy's, I've learned a few things that might help.
I can't and won't bring another dog home, but at least this way I can help... If they'll let me. The shelter isn't a no kill shelter, but they also won't kill to make room. So helping even this one dog could help another dog.

Thank you for wanting to help. I am no expert but was able to help quite a few shy, scared, terrified dogs at a shelter and it was very rewarding. I also loved doing something you can't do - help the few dogs that came in that were aggressive to men. I hope the shelter allows you to help.

Just got off the phone w/ the board member. I'm meeting her tonight and getting a key to the shelter. They have a couple dogs that need a bit of help, so I'll start doing that in my spare time. The pit bull is only about 8 mos old, and needs some manners, confidence, and socialization.
Looking forward to getting into helping this way again!
