We've got some bad vibes in the forum. The left side of Dharma's face has been paralyzed since Saturday night. First thing we noticed was her jowl/lip drooping. Water just leaks out of that side of her face. When she yawns, only the right side of her face moves. She can blink her left eye and the eyeball seems to be moving normally, but she doesn't close the eye or flinch when I stick my finger in it like she does with the right eye. She's going to our regular vet later today to rule out some things, but I've already made an appointment for her tomorrow morning with the neurologist that saw Barley. No other symptoms. She's eating, drinking, barking, running around normally. Still, I am so freaked out right now and I'm fearing the worst.

Dharma saw the neurologist this morning and we went ahead with MRI, x-rays, and spinal tap. Good news is that MRI and x-rays were clear. No tumors. THANK DOG!!! Also no middle ear infection. We should have spinal tap results by Thursday. I'm just so relieved that it's not the worst case scenario. I'm still upset that we don't know what's going on, of course.

Good to hear. Sorry that you dont have an answer though. One of my friends dogs had similar happen. I think they wrote it off as a stroke or something. He just went on like that. did not seem to bother him.

Very glad to hear it isn't a tumor. Is she still having seizures?

Is she still having seizures? Michele's sweet Harley is having seizures. Dharma's only symptom is the facial paralysis.

Spinal tap and blood work came back normal. Neurologist wants to see her again in a month unless anything changes or worsens. I'm glad we've been able to rule out some scary stuff, but not knowing what's causing this is pretty scary too. Neurologist said that she often sees idiopathic (unknown cause) cases improve within a few weeks, so keeping fingers and paws crossed.

Hmmm very odd, BUT very glad that you have ruled out the bad stuff.
