My sister msg'd me on facebook asking if I knew of a way to economically, and successfully worm dogs and cats with out going broke. She has 3 dogs, and a cat. She lives out in the country, and she lives 1/4 mile away from her dad, who has a 40 acre salvage yard. People dump animals off there all the time. He feeds the cats, and if possible, my sister will take the dogs to the animal shelter if they agree. (they don't always) Otherwise they get fed as well, and her dad will try to send them home with customers... some stick around, some take off. He himself has a dog too. Someone, in the last couple of weeks dumped of 6 cats, and 4 kittens. The adult cats are semi feral and don't want to be handled. The kittens have adopted my sister and she is now momma. Her dogs have free roam between her home and her dads property. They're always in contact with his dog, and other dead things they find. She keeps her dogs, and her dads dog up to date on shots. Her cat is also up to date on shots, but she is also an indoor cat. They are also frontlined in the summer.
Will ivomec work for de-worming? Also is it cat safe?

Also, what solution should she purchase?

A 1% ivermectin solution given orally at 0.1/cc per 10lbs weight once a month for dogs. Can use generics (Bimectin, Noromectin, etc.) so long as it's 1%. Will NOT treat tapeworms. She'll need Panacur or Safeguard for those.
Jeffers Livestock has great deals on Ivomec and generics.
No clue on dosage for cats! It is cat safe, though.
