"What makes it so much worse is that the older they get, the sweeter they get, and when they reach absolute critical sweetness—you simply cannot love them any more than you already do—they grow completely exhausted and die."
If anyone needs me, I'll in the corner crying for the rest of the day.

I hear ya Sugar. I was looking at Harley and Violet the other day and could not help but think one is just at the beginning of her life and the other is almost at the end.

Don't feel bad posting it, it was very sweetly written. Chubby is only about 6ish but even now I get the "Oh, he doesn't have much time left huh? They only live to about what? 10?"
like why in the heck does that need to be pointed out. Ever?

And then they like to remind me that one of my dogs has a missing front leg, "So he's going to die sooner, right?" Uhm. Seriously. Did you open your mouth and actually let those words come out?

I've heard some strange and stupid remarks about my tripod Dharma, but that's a new one. I think I might punch someone in the face for saying that to me, lol!

Honestly, if the person who said it, said it again, I probably would. I was more dumbfounded than anything. I'm not often speechless, but I was then. I sort of just froze and I guess the look on my face was "I'm confused why you said that, did you want to lose your teeth today?" because she changed the subject pretty quickly. Still not sure if people say those types of things because they're stupid or just plain inconsiderate.

Lucy was 12 when she was diagnosed with bladder cancer and I had several family members tell me I should just give up and put her down. She lived over a year with perfect kidney checks and my neighbors with older dogs knew what was going on and would talk to me when we were both outside at 3am with our dogs so they could pee. It was arthritis that got Lucy, not cancer.
Several of my neighbors asked when they didn't see Lucy on our walks the next day if I had had to make a decision and the entire thing devastated me, but what irritated me was having to be reminded of it several times a few months later when other neighbors without dogs would just be like "Oh hey, where's your big dog?"
