Hiya, all! Not much going on here, a boring summer is almost gone, leading to a boring fall. But a real breakthrough today on our weekly hike.
We had a very nice hike today, Sedona's second group walk after a two month hiatus. At the end, a friend came to the car with his toddler son to say goodbye to Sedona. The boy leaned in and extended his hand, and Sedona reached up to lick it. Wow.
The boy is raised around dogs and has no fear of them. He's fairly quiet, so that in itself was the best thing on the hike. Sedona never was stressed at his presence, and I think that led to her being calm when he presented his hand. I was grinning ear to ear! She keeps surprising me, even when I think there are no surprises left.
This was big.

Good girl Sedona! Confidence in a high-anxiety dog is a beautiful thing.

That is such a HUGE thing. Awesome, Dave.
Sedona came to us absolutely petrified of children. I think they scared her more than anything else and the sound of them would send her into a total panic. This certainly is a milestone.

Thanks everyone. She the crap outta me! Mary, she still shuts down at the sound of them, though not as severely. If she can't see them, she glances around to try to locate them. We can usually work through the situation without that trembling "I'm so screwed" reaction. Next week there may be a 7 yo and a 10 yo with us. We'll see then. I think having the kids across the street may have helped desensitize a little.

Yep, it was Holden. He hardly made any noise the entire time, and even when he did Sedona really didn't react. The boy is really pretty awesome, but his parents have everything to do with that. That kid is going to be stable as hell. I was wondering how things were with you. Glad that you'll be back hiking with us. It's kinda lonely without you.

Great news for Sedona! I love the little surprises when working with a fearful/nervous/anxious dog!
