I'll apologize now for the following vent/rant....
I am so over and done with this #damndog River.
There is no off switch. You get up to go to the bathroom, and you come back to some random thing destroyed, spilled, moved, etc.
I went to switch my laundry over a few minutes ago. Came back and noticed my soda (caff free diet... it's late) was missing.
I found my bed soaked. That was around 11:30pm. I was going to go to bed! But no, I have no spare sheets since Cleveland ruined my other set a couple months ago. I don't even have any spare blankets anymore. They've been turned into dog blankets or my daughter has them all.
I have reached the point of tears with her. Every time I turn around it is something else. Last week she brought me the pull cord off of the lawn mower. My daughter washed her shoes, and had them on the bathroom counter drying. River destroyed them. Barely worn Vans. I was putting on my makeup the other day, went to reach for my over priced makeup sponge and it was gone. Found her chewing happily on it. While showering the other day, she stole two books off the bookcase, found them (not chewed up) on my bed. She tries to steal things from the trash, the sink, the cupboards, the counters... She's so stinkin' tall nothing is safe. Aryns friend crashed her over the weekend, he left his contacts on the counter. I told him to put them on top of the fridge, it was the only place left that was safe.
It's to the point where I feel like I have to keep her leashed to me if she isn't crated. You think you've got things puppy proofed, but she finds something else. It is seriously worse than dealing with a toddler.
She is far from neglected. She's put through her training paces at least twice a day, I play with her a lot, and if the weather is half way decent I'll go outside with all the dogs and we play fetch. She plays hard with Cleveland, plays not as hard with Winston. They do mad zoomies, games of chase. They tire out and sleep, she's still going. We even play fetch in the house, or keep away. She has several different types of nylabones, a kong, soft rubber toys, random other toys, JW toys, stuffies with squeekers, and old safe stuffies to destroy in her crate. I utilize NILF with her as well. She gets snuggle time, and attention from my daughter and her friends. When Kaiha is here, she (River) won't leave her alone.
I want to scream and throw a hissy fit. She exhausts me. I want to shake my fist and curse her. Then she freakin' looks at me and I feel so bad.
I'm thinking about buying an outdoor kennel for her to enjoy this summer. She can't dig out, she can't climb out, but she can be outside and have more room to play, and more to distract her while crated. I won't let her stay out the entire time I'm at work, but at least for part of it. I hope this helps. I don't know what else to do.
