Last night when Winston and I went to bed, I was petting his head and ears. I noticed that there was a soft squishy lump on his ear. So I got up to look at it. It is hard to see, and seems to be in the fold of the ear. I checked today, and it's still there. Not bigger, not smaller. There isn't any inflammation like it is a pimple or anything. If you didn't feel his ear you'd likely miss it. It's about an inch and a half long and probably 1/2 an inch wide. I called my vet to ask if it could be a hematoma. She told me what it would feel like, and how big it would likely be. While this feels the way she described, it isn't as big. She said they're usually the whole ear flap. But, this could be the beginning of one. Since there is no obvious injury to the ear, it could still have happened by shaking his head, or wrestling with the other dogs.
I'll keep an eye on it, and if it gets worse, we'll go see the vet.
Meanwhile, River walks up to me with a limp. I check her over and can't find anything wrong. She limps a couple steps away from me, then she was fine. Must have stubbed her toe. Cleveland is fine. He just wants food, but his fat butt doesn't need any.

Nine had a hematoma once and it started out small. It was much bigger within 24 hours.

Good to know. I should probably warn my kids. Otherwise I'll likely get a panic call at work.

Yeah sounds like a start of a hematoma for sure.

Yeah when Nine had hers I had never seen one before and I freaked out. Nine had a lot of ear problems. She would let Kuma lick them constantly so she was always getting infections and shaking her head a lot.
