Had something very strange happen to Maxine tonight.
We had just got done having dinner and I walked from living room to the kitchen.I looked down at the kitchen floor and Maxine was shaking all over and looking as though she had just gone to the bathroom in the house or chewed up a table leg. In short, like she was in full out guilt-mode. Her entire body was shaking from head to tail and she could not get up to walk for the first few minutes. Even when she could stand up, it still took her a few tries before she could walk without staggering or attempting to slink back down to the ground. Her tail was tucked the entire time between her legs and she continued to shake. When she got outside she started to get more steady, and then right after when the neighbor walked by her ears pricked up, tail came out from hiding and she barked towards him. After that she appeared fine. Wanted to play ball, was running around the yard, had interest in food and water.
She was responsive for most of the time, she looked at us and tried her best to obey when we called to her and helped her outside. She wasn't convulsing or drooling and she didn't lose her bowels or bladder. Her eyes were a little dilated but returned to normal after this behavior.
Brief background note: Maxine has always been very skittish, she hides from loud noises, jumps at sudden movements and runs and hides when anyone has an argument. Tonight right before the attack, 20 min or so, my parents were fighting, loud slamming doors and raised voices. She had run outside into the backyard before when they fight, hidden herself under a bush and shakes/will not stand up for a bit until she feels calm again.
Plan on taking her to the vet for blood work after the first of the month, just to rule out virus/bacterial infection or anything like diabetes. This whole episode tonight just kind of freaked me out and I know that others have had to face seizures/ strange behavior from their dogs.
Any thoughts?
