This is what I've posted on facebook:
Winston update - he will be on steroids for the next month to treat his ear and to see how his growths and skin react to it. He had 3 lumps aspirated but there was very little fluid to extract, mostly fatty stuff, but the vet will look to see if she can find any cells. She doest think there is enough there to be tested, then they'll be sent in. Otherwise, When we go back in when he's done with his meds, if there has been no improvement concerning his ear, we'll have it surgically repaired and then remove one of his lumps and have that sent in for testing. If there is improvement in his ear, we'll still remove a lump for testing. Where his shoulder is concerned, I'll be taking him to a vet who does canine chiropractic care. The vet feels it might be his neck that's actually causing the limp.
He has also gained 3.8 pounds since mid Jan. I attribute that in part to my nephew feeding him his food every time we turn around.
About the vet, she's knowledgeable with pits, and their allergies. She has her own allergy dog as well. She uses a combination of holistic and vet care, and acupuncture to treat animals. One thing we might do is something I haven't done, and that is a hypoallergenic food for 6 weeks and then introduce individual foods to see what he reacts to. But that won't happen until I find my own home and can control what he eats.

At least its a start:) good news on the lumps. Rufus has a bunch of them and gets more every year:(
If he has reoccurring ear infections its definitely an allergy of some sort. If you find the allergy you might not have to do surgery. Most dogs have environmental allergies- grass ,trees , mites etc. i would do an airborne allergy test first instead of a food trial..

Steroids wont control fatty lumps either. It will just make him pee more drink more and not itch as much for a bit

He is on the steroid for the hematoma he got last week using his fat head to open the sliding screen door. The vet has had success with this in the past and if it works we avoid another surgery. We'll still remove a lump for biopsy we're just waiting to see what the ear does. As for ear infections, he's only had one in the last several years and that was last month. Its gone now.

After 4 days on their dose of pred. I noticed Winston wasn't limping anymore. I didn't even consider the anti-inflammatory affect of the pred. I'm going to call my vet and seeing I should wait to take him to the chiropractor.

We're on 1/2 dose daily now and the limp came back after his run last night.

Hmmm the limp is back? Can you have xrays done of his neck and leg?

I'm going to go ahead and take him to the vet chiro. after he's off the pred. His ear is improving, so it doesn't look like he'll need surgery to correct it. I may go ahead and get the x-rays done if we have to knock him out for biopsies.
