Because my pick male puppy died at several days of age! There were two males left, and I chose Luca since the other male was a blue pie. I made a beeline straight for him - we were meant to be!

Actually was going to get a blue brindle but instead my breeder knew that I wanted a pup to spend time with we went over and got Odie. He's just the sweetest boy ever and has a great temperament. Which is something I expressed to the breeder where drive was concerned. Odie is pretty mellow except for a few energy spurts through out the day. He's a snuggle bunny.

How did I find my dogs? On petfinder.com!
When I adopted Roscoe, I was looking for a mature 3+ year old pit bull who didn't have too much energy, as I was moving into an apartment and was a working student. I wanted a neutered shelter/rescue dog of known temperament. The shelter basically held him a month for me while I found an apartment, and even did a dental for free when they neutered him. So I got a neutered, vaccinated dog with clean teeth and a great temperament for $45. Some of the best money I ever spent. He was 5 when I adopted him, and will be 13 this spring.
Aiden was actually supposed to be a 3+ year old female, but Roscoe seemed to click with him and I fell in love. (Of course several years later Aiden matured and now they are permanently separated.) Aiden was about a year old, and came into the shelter injured and emaciated. The shar pei half of him has made him leery of strangers and a one-family dog, so he is definitely for experienced hands only. He is extremely loyal and I love him to pieces, but I would not recommend a pit/guardian breed mix. He is now 7.5 years old.
Bonnie is my foxhound, and she is a foster failure. She was originally part of a hunting pack, but was hit by a car, taken to a shelter, and never reclaimed by the hunt. The shelter released her to a "rescue" that was actually a hoarder, so she continued to live outside, chained to a doghouse. The hoarder was shut down, so I then took her to foster. She was never socialized and never lived inside a house for the first 4 years of her life, so it took awhile to sort her out. She is now 9, and has gradually come out of her shell. She is now very affectionate, but still has the hound independent streak.
Obviously I promote adoption above all else unless you want to show in conformation. There's no better way to get exactly what you are looking for in a dog than to adopt from a reputable rescue who has had the dog in foster care for at least a month.

Hmm..Deja was picked from a picture on petfinder out of a litter of pups a rescue had. She ran me into the ground as a puppy and several times I wanted to strangle her! LOL as you can tell, she survived. Cyrus, well he came about from my other half. I had been trying to find a group to foster for and after two failed attempts to foster a dog, I decided, "I might as well just adopt one." So, I started browsing petfinder and actually came across a merle pit mix that caught my eye. I inquired and they let me know that he had a heart murmur and that they needed to hold on to him longer but that there was one other dog that might work well. That was Cyrus. I showed both pics to my other half and he liked Cy better. He harassed me for a week about him while I sat trying to decide if I was ready for the permanent commitment. Decided I was and applied. Got approved and made arrangements to go meet him. The day before we made the trek 3 hours from home to have Deja and Cy meet, he actually got into a scrap with the merle dog I was originally looking at adopting. Dogs got loose on the property and fence fighting ensued and Cy was a victim of redirect aggression. We went up and met him the next day as planned and left without him. I didn't want to stress him out any more than he already was. The rescuer made a road trip down a few days later and brought him to me. My two are the best damn pair of dogs and I wouldn't trade them for the world I know I'm biased but, I got REALLY lucky with how their personalities compliment one another. I love my pooches!

Got my pup from a local crappy shelter. he was in such bad shape that we took him to the vet the day after we got him. Anyway almost 6 mos. later he's doin fine. Oh..the reason we got him...we followed our hearts instead of our heads..

I picked Cuddles, because she wasn't too hyper or too calm. Also, her one blue eye/one brown eye really caught my attention, then once I held her, she rested her head on my shoulder, and I instantly knew she was mine. (shelter)
I didn't pick Notch. He is my boyfriend's, but he choose him, because the other pups were jumping around like crazy, but Notch just sat and looked at him. Stan liked that, so, he took him. (BYB)
We chose Tess, because she was the runt (as were Notch and Cuddles), and she was the only black pup in the litter, the rest were buckskin and red. (BYB)
Hawken was Stan's pick of the litter, and he like him, because he looked the most like Notch. Locus was my pick of the litter, because I liked her markings, plus she and I just seemed to connect. Finally, Morgan stayed, because both Stan and I liked his markings, and he was just too cute to give up. (our own bybing)

I just talked the the lady at the rescue and told I was only really interested in larger dogs, but aside from that I was willing to take on the dog she felt needed a home the most urgently. She replied "well... how do you feel about a bully breed?" I didn't really know what I was getting into but I said sure. And now I'm the proud owner of the most quirky dog I've ever met.
I kind of laugh when I read all the stuff pit owners should be instructed on when they first get a dog. I knew they had a reputation but I had no idea what I was getting into chewing/pit fit wise. God I remember the first time she yawned while an inch from my face, it was like looking down the mouth a great white.
Still she's a really good dog and is amazingly cute, and that's all that matters.

I had been thinking about getting a puppy for several months and knew that I wanted to get a pit bull. Well on he way home for winter break my friend and I almost have a wreck and the mechanic that we talked to while we waited the tree and a half hours it took them to get to our vehicle tells me that he has a litter of pit bull puppies, they are seven weeks old and do I want one? Well we go to see the puppies and the mom is just the friendliest dog I had ever met so start thinking about getting one of the pups. I was originally going to get one of the black females but then I was this little red puppy just as happy as can be to new people to say hi to and that is how I got my Athena. On the five hour drive home she curled up in my lap and went to sleep after sniffing my friends dog.

Mine started out as a foster, she was owner surrendered at 6 wks of age with no mama dog. She needed to get out of the shelter asap, so we brought her home. When she was old enough, we got her spayed and started taking her to offsite adoption events which is when I realized that no-one else was good enough for her! LOL It scared me to let her go, so we adopted her last summer!! She's fantastic and I'm glad we did even though sheS chewed up our hot tub lid, patio furniture and pads on the trampoline!!(which was entirley my fault) LOL .....and because of that we bought a tread mill off craigslist for her, she's hasnt destroyed anything sense! She loves to get on that thing, if she doesnt get on it each day, she will go over to it, hop on and stand there and stare at me until I turn it on for her. She's silly!

She's silly! perfect example of how treadmills can be used outside the dog fighting world, and how happy it can make some dogs! we found our dog in the paper. some people's dog got pregnant unexpectedly and they were giving away a whole litter for free. so we went to the house and she was the first one who came over and got close to us. since then i have actually seen some of the other dogs, and they are nasty. it is to bad the family didn't spend some more time finding better homes, but at least one did. who isn't?

I also found my dog through an add. When I called the number I think I expected it to be just some persons dog with an unexpected litter, but when I went to the house I realized it was a breeder. I almost turned around right then but then I saw how much he truly loved his dogs. He had 3 males with Lucy's father (half brothers to Lucy) that were about 7 months old and were neutered and he was keeping them. He also had another blue male who was younger that was his pride and joy. When I picked out Lucy she was with another red and a gray with a mask female. I picked her because of her piercing eyes. When the guy asked me which one we wanted to see, me, my boyfriend and our friend Chris all had Lucy targeted, and it was fate. Our friend that was with us is also Lucy's dogfather, haha. My old roommate actually met the other red female from the litter when Lucy was 4 months old, she knew it was her sister right away! The guy that has her is the guy we got her from's cousin. You know you live in the south when... Looking back now, I feel bad for supporting a breeder, even though I only gave him a few bucks. But I am so happy with Lucy it doesn't even matter to me anymore, what's done is done. My next dog will defiantly be a full grown dog from the shelter or rescue though.
