So i have been doing some research into Raw Diets and the like. But I was wondering, are they as good as they sound? Right now I feed my dog Canidae, and while I agree that dried and processed "whatever" that goes into it is not the best, Rosie seems all right. However, she has had some trouble with her ACL, and needs to stay at a constant weight. Not only that but I want her to be as healthy as possible, because she's ten years old. I recently bought some beef bones from my local Whole Foods and noticed they had various meat cuts as well. Oxtail, turkey neck, some beef rib type things, some chicken parts, and liver. It is all frozen and the expiration date is not for a couple of months, if i get it and feed it to her (thawed) before then should it be all right? I mean it is not from a butcher, but i am pretty sure Whole Foods has an in house butchery of sorts. I mean it is sold for human consumption. Also it is very cheap, 2 bones, 2 bucks. Please give me some input and help put my mind at ease.
I want to try giving her egg over the next couple of days, can I do shell and all?

some dogs do well on raw, some dont it depends on the dog.. raw eggs and shells crushed up are fine, mine get eggs a few times a week. its ok to buy stuff close to the expiration date and defrost and give to the dog..

is the only reason you're suggesting buying closer to expiration b/c it will be cheaper? if that's the case i dont think that the price will drop. it's already pretty low, i mean it is the "undesirables."

oh no, i dont suggest buying it, i just said that i buy it when i go grocery shopping if i am out of their food or its not defrosted.. you can buy it, it isnt cheaper though, what the price is on the package is what you pay.. like say you ran out of raw, and the next few days you have to wait for your supplier to get your order, you go to the supermarket to get some stuff to hold the dogs over, and the meats are all within a week to a few days of expiration.. its ok to bring it home and bag it and freeze some of it if you cant feed it all within 3 days, thats what i meant..

youre welcome, there should be a supplier in your surrounding area if you are on the groups, also ask both groups if there are any suppliers you can get meat from or if they do a co op.. you might have to drive a ways, like an hour if you find a supplier , i did that until i found one that delivers to ny/nj/pa areas.. now i meet her 30 minutes from my house

that is awesome.. see what prices they can give you.. you really want to stay at least under $1 a lb for chicken, and at least $1.25 or under for turkey.. the lower price they can give you the better, as its also about price, you dont want to be paying $2 a lb for ground turkey with bone if another supplier can get it for say $1.14 a lb... the more you pay the less you get as it will cost more.. see too if anyone else wants to go in with you on an order to bring the price down as well. the website shows free range and organic, which is great... good find!!!

that is not a bad price for drums, the local shop rite here has sales where quarters (drumsticks/thighs) are down to .43 a lb.. so you are on the right track. also ask them if you buy in bulk can the price go down.. you will pay more if its organic however or free range.. drumsticks are fine for dogs, all mine eat them along with quarters, half chickens, whole cornish hens...
