Attacked in her own driveway. A woman takes on a vicious pit bull and has the bite marks to prove it. The attack happened on Saturday at 320B South Mountain Street in Union.
66-year-old Joan Garner is doing fine, now. Garner says she was in her yard with her little Chihuahua. She says her dog wandered off and when she looked a pit bull was next to her dog. Garner says she went to pick her dog up and walked away. Moments later the pit bull grabbed her from behind by her shirt and bit her on the back.
Garner says she struggled with that pit bull and was able to run back into her house. Once inside the pit bull was still trying to get to her through the door. She had to bare down and force the door shut on the dog's neck.
The dog bit her several times on her hand, leg and back. Garner called police and the officer caught the pit bull and it's now at the animal shelter.
Animal control has not been able to find that pit bull's owner and that dog will stay quarantined for 10 days and likely be put down because of its viciousness.
So what do you do if a dog is giving you trouble? The Spartanburg Humane Society says you need to contact your local animal control office. You can do that if the animal doesn't have ID tags that show it's had rabies shots, or if it doesn't have a leash.
It’s also against the law for pets to roam on property without the owner's consent.
