I was wondering if there is anything I can do to prevent Boomer from shedding so much(or at least have him shed less). We give him bath weekly, wash the bedding in his crate weekly, and brush him about 3 times a week but still I find lots of brown hairs in the seats of my car and on the floor of my house! With our baby coming soon, I was hoping there was more I could do to make him shed less. Any tips or advise would be appreciated!!!

They just shed, unfortunately. This breed drops a LOT of hair. Those little needles stick into/onto everything, too! I rub Luca down quickly 5 - 7 days a week with a rubber curry which really helps dislodge the loose hairs and dander and keep the shedding to a minimum. I'd try that if currently you are only using a bristle brush.

A good diet is the best thing you can do to ease shedding in any pet. Balanced omega fatty acids are one of the most important aspects, but you want a high quality diet in general.
I prefer to use a rubber curry as well. The one I use is the Zoom Groom. The dogs think they are getting a massage.

you are also bathing him tooo much.. the more you bathe him the more he loses the natural oils in his coat.. which in turn will make him shed more.. plus, in the winter they grow a winter coat, which will shed once the warm weather shows up...

LOL I *never* bathe my dogs! Rarely, and only if they absolutely need it. Diet already does so much.

mine get baths once a year if that, however my allergy dogs do get baths every 2 weeks in the warm months to keep the allergens down with special allergy shampoo.

LOL - ok - I went out and bought a rubber curry brush from the feed & seed. Gonna torture my great dane with it tonight. Wow - I new that dogs like my pyrenees did not need to be bathed - but I did not know that about the shorter haired dogs - now I don't have to do that unless they roll in the unmentionable substances - whoohooo!!!!

If you do have to bathe your dog a lot, use an all natural oatmeal soap on them to put some of the moisture back in their skin from excess bathing. I had to bathe Lucy once a week almost this summer because she had fleas so bad and nothing would get rid of them, following up her orange bath with oatmeal shampoo really helped replenish her skin.

I bathe my dogs once a month, mostly because they start getting stinky. I do wipe them down with wipes to prolong having to actually bathe them. Is that too much?
Reed has some flaky skin sometimes, but not too bad, and he's not itching all the time. I'm feeding them canidae, and he has 3v caps put in his bowl once every few days.

You'd be surprised how often a lot of people bathe their dogs. I have some customers that come in once a week like clockwork. Once a month isn't bad, as long as you don't use harsh shampoos and their skin doesn't dry out from it. Like I said before, oatmeal shampoo does wonders for that.
