personally i wouldnt crop any of my dogs ears. however, if a dog with cropped ears was availabe then i would adopt it. i prefer natural ears as it makes the dog look softer then a cropped look... plus the pain they go thru is really not worth it. i had the chance to have rubys breeder crop her ears for me, but decided not to as it is to painful for pups to get their ears cropped. plus i like to smush their ears in my fingers lol

Because i like when they can move them and show expressions, whereas long ones are sometimes too floppy to do this. are prick ears natural? if they are then I like those.

I like a professional and correct cropped ear as much as I like a natural ear.
Unless I were showing again, no reason to crop for me, BUT there are levels of experience and talent which go into a crop and I don't feel that most of the crops I see (in many breeds) should have been done by whoever did it.
A friend flew in a vet just to do the ear crop on her Doberman puppy years ago and it's flawless.
I will say that if natural ears gained more popularity in the US such as in other countries maybe we wouldn't have these punks out there hacking puppies ears off with scissors and steak knives.

Here's the RPB stance on cropped ears:
Cropping is a personal choice, but please consider the following points:
# The AKC standard for AmStaffs actually states UNcropped is preferred. The UKC APBT standard does not promote cropped over natural. # Cropping is a completely COSMETIC AND UNNECESSARY surgery. During surgery, the dog is placed under general anesthesia which ALWAYS brings with it the risk of complications and even death. # Cropping IS painful for the dogs, despite what some people try to convince themselves and others; there are tons of sensitive nerve endings in the ears. # Ears are one of a dog's main means of communication. # If you do choose to crop, it should be done before the puppy is 12 weeks of age. Cropping after this age is more painful for the dog, as the cartilage in the ear has begun to set and harden as the pup gets older. # Make sure you choose a vet who crops on a regular basis and is familiar with the correct cut and length for a Pit Bull. It helps to bring a photo of exactly the type of crop job you would like done. RPB’s advice is to look at photos of AKC Am Staff show dogs, as these dogs are usually cropped the correct length and shape. # Be prepared for a LOT OF AFTER CARE! Taping, splinting, cleaning, etc. The pup will come back with STICHES all up and down the outside of his ears. If the ears are not properly cared for, they will wrinkle, fall, fold, bend, and generally not stand correctly. The risk of a crop job turning out poorly is enough to keep many people from cropping their dogs; a bad crop job can truly ruin a dog's expression and general appearance. # Don't be fooled: cropping IS a major deal. It's not like trimming nails or clipping fur. It is SURGICAL AMPUTATION.
Owners should carefully consider ALL THE FACTS before they choose to put their dogs through this painful and unnecessary surgery

i would never crop ears for many of these reasons, but if i saw a dog whose ears had already been cropped i wouldn't think any less of the dog/owners unless the ears were mangled. then i might be concerned. i'm not into showing so the first one is not a matter of importance for me.

I love the cropped look, I have nothing against cropped dogs. I had two dogs cropped before I decided it was no longer morally acceptable to me personally.

It makes me sick to think that people crop their dog's ears for cosmetic reasons. I personally don't hold it against any owners with dogs when I have seen that they have been cropped because I have no idea, if they did it or not. But, people who have cropped their dog's ears I have NO respect for. I can understand maybe that they were uninformed at the time and when informed would make a different decision, so I wouldn't hold it against them in that situation. As far as the "look" goes, I think it looks cute, but I would never do that to a dog just because that is how I prefer they look. That is abuse. It's an extremely touchy subject for me, to say the least.

I like cropped just as much as I like natural. I love a good looking ear crop, but wouldn't do it to my own dog. If I were looking to adopt, an ear crop would be acceptable to me if already done.
I've seen lots of yucky looking crops!

I like a nice crop ear but for my dog I wouldn't do it. Odie is too cute with his ears.

I appreciate all of your input. After seeing how tiny Lily's ears are now - and how dang cute she is when she does "radar" with them - we have decided against cropping her. The only reason we were considering is because we intend to show her, but since it is no longer a disqualification to have natural ears we are gonna stick with natural. Thanks again for the input!!

It's never been a disqualification, Andrea And I'm glad for Lily's sake you decided to keep her bootiful little ears intact

lol - she does have the sweetest, softest ears. once the "bumpies" from the other pups biting her go away they will be even better.

If the dog is going to look better with cropped ears then I will crop his ears, however, if his ears look fine and are healthy and don't look all out of control, then I wouldn't touch them..
