Hmm Comfortis looks interesting as it is chewable form. However I did not see it works for ticks. Are ticks not an issue in your area for Lyme disease or is there something else you use?

We seem to have mutant fleas this year...almost everyone I talk to w/dogs are having major problems since it got warm. Frontline quit working for me and most of my friends years ago, and now Advantage doesn't seem to work as well. My vet is now recommending Comfortis, but I haven't tried it yet.

Surprisingly, I have never seen a tick on either of my dogs and I don't use anything to prevent them. It's never been an issue.
Comfortis is essentially a Capstar which is effective for a month (I think it lasts a little longer) and kills all fleas within 30 minutes.
A friend of mine said that after being out in a field with one of her dogs, she checked her over for bugs and there was a deer tick attacked to her leg but shriveled and dead. She only uses Comfortis, too. So it may be effective for the ticks as well.

Well we dont have so much of issues with the fleas but ticks can be found often especially if you hike. so far only k9Advantix has been working. But I have found it very difficult to buy. I have been to several vets in my area who dont sell it because of the added repellents. Although I care deeply about my dog and what I put on him. Lyme disease is a serious disease that I also have to consider my kids and Rocky bringing the ticks into their bed etc. So I have been using k9advantix with great defense against ticks...frontline not so effective for him with ticks. So I am interested in this comfortis also because Rocky hates getting the stuff put on his back neck. But I must find out if works for ticks.

I am pretty much against all chemicals for fleas and ticks on my dog, but around here the fleas are so bad I can't not use something. I am trying to get away with doing it every 2 months and the one that is currently working for me is advantage. Advantix and Frontline stopped working, I haven't tried comfortis, is it expensive (or more expensive than over the counter flea treatments?)

I haven't tried comfortis, is it expensive (or more expensive than over the counter flea treatments?) I think it costs about the same as Advantage and all that. I would price check at your vet just to make sure though.

carolann my vet carries k9advantix.... Yeah right I use to go to your vet. Think where I first got it thanks for reminding me. I switched to new vet in Warwick since he is only 5 min instead of 30 min I guess I should take a drive over to pick some up. I had to use frontline this month all I could get. I use frontline in cooler months and use k9advantix this time of year till about october then I use frontline come oct-dec.

I get my insulin (for myself) 1 year supply for the cost of a 30 days supply fron CVS and my dog's heartguard/frontline off the internet. I became really irritated at the vets constant pimping of what ever product his/her fav rep was selling at the time. I stick with what I know works, and while doing feline rescue it became insanely expensive just to get CAPSTAR!! There is no Rx Required and it is completely legal also -TONS- cheaper. I do not want to post it here in case it violates any rules, however this place is well known and I have had ZERO problems for the 4 years I have used them. PM me for the link or if I can post it give me the ok

Yah, my vets are money grubbin jerks, too bad they are good vets besides that so I avoid going through them at all costs. I will eventually switch vets, but for now I got to stick to the rip offs.
