Is cat food dangerous for dogs? I have to hide the cat food around here to keep the dogs out of it. They prefer it to their own food.
I've tried feeding the cats in another room and closing the door, but the minute the door is opened and my back is turned, the dogs are there chowing down. I've also tried all sorts of other tricks, but I feel like I'm depriving the cats of their nourishment.
People have told me that it's bad for dogs, but I haven't heard anything definitive. Does anyone here know?

I may be stating the obvious, but maybe try and keep it up high so the cats can climb up and get it but the dogs can't reach?

Cat foods have different amounts of nutrients than dog foods, and if fed too often to dogs, it can result in nutrition deficiencies and too much of other vitamins and minerals. It can also cause GI issues, pancreatitis (due to high fat content), and has higher levels of protein than cat food does, so is not safe to feed if you don't know your pet's kidney status.
I put a small cat door in the center of my laundry room door in the house. That way, the cats could get into the laundry room with the door closed, but the dogs couldn't. I did it because my guys were notorious litter box archeologists, but it kept the food away from them too.

Thanks, everybody!
I've started feeding my cats less food so that there's little or none left in the bowl when they are finished eating. Yes, and putting the bowls a bit higher (thanks). I'll see how it works out.
What is the deal with the dogs and the litterboxes? And dirty baby diapers, too. Yuck!
