Dharma (formerly Tallulah) is one of the over 500 dogs rescued from the July 2009 8 state fight bust. Since then, she has been in the care of the Humane Society of Missouri (HSMO). I fell in love with her the first time I volunteered at the secret bunker. Gale, rescue superhero, put her on the list of dogs that Mutts-n-Stuff would consider taking in. She is a special girl... you can see it in her eyes and in her smile. Dharma is 3 years old and was born without the lower part of her right front leg. She had been using it to walk, causing damage to the nerves and bone, so the HSMO medical staff determined that the leg had to be amputated at the shoulder to prevent further damage and to help with her mobility. She is getting around MUCH better than before! There is no stopping this girl and she literally bounced right back immediately after her surgery. It's been a long process, but I was finally able to bring Dharma home to Chicago on Friday. She is settling in and learning how to be a dog in a house. Eventually, she will earn her CGC certification and be trained to be a therapy dog. My hope is that she will work with children with disabilities. I'll post more about her story on the Mutts-n-Stuff blog. Here are some pictures from her journey, from when the investigators first found her at the bust site, to her posing at the bunker, to her snuggling in with her blankets and pillows in her new home.
