I FINALLY found a CGC evaluator that will evaluate Boomer. There are many evaluators in my area but most of them didn’t want to evaluate a single dog, they would only do an evaluation if there was a group to evaluate. Anyway, I believe Boomer is ready but I was wondering what is exactly required. A few questions I have are: -Is it ok if Boomer gets a little excited when the evaluator pets him? -Is it ok if Boomer is interested in another dog (In a friendly way)? -What exactly do evaluators do to test the dog? I am a little nervous that he will fail but I have my fingers crossed! Any info is appreciated! I am not that knowledgeable about CGC testing!

Well let me see if I can remember. I think it is ok if he gets excited but not jumping on the evaluator. Interested is ok but he should sit nicely at your side while you greet the evaluator with dog. What they do is See if your dog will come to you with a long lead attached Brush and groom the dog Make a loud noise such as dropping a food bowl You have to leave dog with evaluator while you hide. The dog can be a little curious about your leaving but should quickly be ok with it not freaking. Oh yeah and loose leash walking.

OK! I am definetly going to have to work with Boomer sitting while greeting another dog. He can get quite excited.
Thank you!

he must behave when meeting the other dog, they are not allowed to touch, but he cant cross your knees to go to the other dog. no jumping on the evaluator either.

He isn’t a jumper but it’s hard for him to keep his booty to the ground when he sees another dog!

I think it is ok if he stands as long as he is not lunging or acting the fool. Right Maryellen?

yep, he cant act like a fool.. he can wiggle if he wants, but not act stupid... and some testers will fail a dog if they wiggle too much - go figure... every tester is different, one might pass him and one might fail him.

OK!!! I talked to the evaluator today and I told her that my ultimate goal is to have Boomer become a certified therapy dog. She said that her neighbor/friend evaluates for the CGC and therapy dogs and if I would be interested in having Boomer evaluated for his CGC and Therapy dog certificate at the same time! That way it would be easier for them and me (Only 1 other dog needed, no 2nd trip, etc.) And I said of course!!! So now I have even more work to do! I’ve been working with Boomer 3 times a day for 15 minutes at a time. He is doing really well! I rarely have to repeat a command!!! I don’t really know much about getting a dog certified as a therapy dog?!? I didn’t think that the opportunity would arise this soon! What do I need to know about the therapy dog evaluation??? LOL! I’m sorry! I just keep having more and more questions! I am so excited! I am also having a blast working with him every day! I LOVE being a momma and I LOVE my daughter to pieces but those 45 minutes just Boomer and I are really relaxing!!!

How exciting! ;D
For therapy certification you have to contact the organization you want to be certified with. I plan on joining TDI with Dharma, because I have found them to be pittie friendly. I guess in your case, maybe ask your neighbor what groups she has evaluated for in your area.

AMY JO YOU SOB just kidding You lucky dog!. I have been searching for a year for someone to do therapy test. It depends on the organization which is doing the test. For example I was planning for TDI. each one is different. But TDI the cgc and the therapy are very similar tests they add a few things like children, and wheelchair and being able to avoid food on the floor. I am hoping to go soon but I am going to need to go to a group test as I have not been able to find an evaluator that will just do it on their own time.

I want him to pass SO badly! I know I can try again if he doesn’t but I am so hopeful! The evaluator is going to call me sometime this week so we can decide when would be a good time to do the evaluation. I have my fingers crossed that the snow will hold until we can get this evaluation done!
