LONG STORY SHORT: OK so another PA rescue had a dog named Orie in their possession. He is a beautiful black and white pit mix, most likely mixed with lab. He is sweet as pie, loves children, tolerates other dogs, just a big lover. He was placed into a foster home with other dogs. A great dane, Pomeranian, and another small dog. He did fine for months, no altercations. The said foster home went away for Christmas and Orie broke through the baby gate, and attacked/killed the Pomeranian. Animal Control picked up Orie and put him on a 10 day hold. The hold will be up January 4th, and Orie will be euthanized. The foster home is upset but doesn't want to see Orie dead. The said rescue is coming up with all kinds of excuses why she is not going and getting this dog out. If anyone has any ideas, or if you can forward this to your trusted contacts it will be greatly appreciated! I know this is a long shot, but I figured I would ask around......He is really a good dog, was just put in the wrong situation! Please contact me if you have any input or ideas! The only available foster home I have at this point has two small dogs SunraysPitBulls@aol.com

I would be willing to foster him. I do live in Iowa so I’m not sure how that would work though.
I would have to crate and rotate with Boomer but that really wouldn’t be an issue. I’d just keep their kennels in separate bedrooms. I live on a big acreage- LOTS of room to run!
I am home all day so they would both have lots of one on one attention.
Other than that, I guess I don’t have much advice! He is a cutie!
If you are interested in having me foster you can send me a PM and we can arrange something!

I think I have someone to house him until we can figure things out.
There are a few things that will have to happen here....
First I have to make sure the shelter will release to me, since I am not a non-profit as of yet.
Second, we will have to see if there is a way to transport him to Iowa. Not sure how to do this, but I am working on it.
Amy Jo will need someone in her area to help with placing Orie. So we will need a rescue/shelter there that is going to be willing to help. Amy Jo offered to take him out of the goodness of her heart and I do not want to see her stuck with him.....
I will need everyones support....... Let me know if anyone has any ideas or input!

Yes Amy Jo has offered to help!
So I e-mailed Pilots N Paws, and I have a transport coordinator on hand if need be (if the flight does not work out).
Going to hear from the shelter tomorrow, if all goes well, will be picking him up Sunday...
I have two possible shelters/rescues willing to help in Iowa! So things should fall into place....
Lets keep our paws crossed!

sorry I said mary Jo OOOPS I knew it was amy jo must be all the Mary's on here made me do it. Oh good glad pilots N paws and the shelters so quickly working with you. I am interested in how this all works. I do live very close to a small airport and one of my boys is working on getting his license. I though for my first foster really want to find a rescue program in my area like Animal Farm who will do greets with my dog and family to match us with a perfect foster. Believe it or not have not found anyone in my area looking for foster homes.

I am so sorry to hear of this situation. We are in kind of the same boat. We have four dogs. One pit, 2 cocker's, and a Maltese. Our pit has gotten our Maltese 5-6 times. We have spent thousands in vet bills. Thankfully he is still alive. This last attack he broke his jaw. Our Maltese is a champ though. He is doing good and I just joined this blog to try to find a loving home for our beautiful pit. He also is a wonderful dog. Pits are bred to do this. They do like the little yippee dogs. This is no way makes them bad dogs. So many people do not understand this. Our pit has been with us for 4 years. The attacks have always been excitement driven. Our pit is so loving, gentle, smart and just loves to cuddle. I just think pits need to be the only dogs in a household. Only animal for that matter. It is absolutely killing us to have to get rid of him but we think it is best. I have emailed every shelter in Arizona and no one wants or can help. I have been lucky to have a shelter to offer to help by letting us come to their adoption events. He is part of our family and we love him with all our hearts but we do not feel it is fair to him to keep him muzzled 24/7, which was some peoples suggestions. He has been nothing but gentle around kids and our little baby.
Was this pit left alone in the house behind only a gate? Someone should have educated them on this. Pits can never be left alone with any animal no matter how nice and friendly you think they all are. They all should have been crated. I am so sorry for the pom. Were they out of town and then came home to this mess? How tragic. He is not a bad dog and I pray you find a home for him. Please keep us updated on this story.

There were so many things that could have avoided this whole situation, and I do not want to give too much detail..... The shelter contacted me today, the dog is in their care and is now their liability. They will not release Orie until 10 days is up, which is Monday or Tuesday. He will then have to be brought up in front of the directors, and they will decide weather he will live or die. Keep your paws crossed! As for your dogs and your poor maltese, could you keep the pit separate? My own pit bull is VERY dog aggressive, and we also have 3 other dogs, we keep the pit bull separated at all times. Doors, gates, crates we make it work. You can read a lot about crate and rotating here as well as www.pbrc.net. I am sorry you are going through this, but there are ways to keep your other animals safe.....

I hope the directors choose life. If they know anything about pits they will know that all pits are capable and not only pits for that matter. There are several breeds that do this and it in no way means they are a bad dog and should be put down.
As far as our dogs go we have though of so many options. Could you tell me more about how you work the crate and switch thing.? How do your dogs deal with that? Do they cry and wine the whole time they are crated? We have had others suggest this but I just can not imagine. it seems so sad to me. Do you think this would be better than finding a home for him where he would be the only dog?

Crate and Rotate is the suggested for multi pit bull dog homes. I believe there is alot of info on this forum if you search it.

OK so today when I called the shelter to see the status on Orie, I was told no more info was going to be given out. Also the directors are going to review his case. The only person that can get info at this point is the original rescue. It is not looking good!

So Orie was supposed to be released today. BUT the shelter did not release him because certain paperwork was not present.... I feel that I have over exhausted myself with this whole issue. I fought tooth and nail, and quite frankly I am tired... I have two problem dogs of my own that I have to work on (rescues) and believe it or not I have my own life, my own rescue, and a FULL TIME JOB! I thank everyone who has backed me through this..... I just do not want to do this anymore! I am beyond stressed, and it is getting worse! Not sure what to do?

So Orie will be here tomorrow, FOR REAL THIS TIME! Step one is done...or will be done. He will arrive at my job, so I can have him microchipped, heartworm tested, and examined.....
He did have heartworm in the past, but the records I have show that he has been cleared negative at his last test......
I will have pictures, and I will keep everyone posted....
Thank you all so much! Lets see where this goes!

OK So he is still coming today, but apparently the shelter noticed nasal discharge this morning. He possibly has kennel cough, but lately I worry about canine flu.... My friend was going to house him until we could get him to his final destination, but she has other dogs...... So he will need to stay at the vet for awhile! Need to work on getting some donations...... Let me know if anyone can help!
