Hopefully I posted this in the right section Skye has been dragging her rear a lot lately and licking at her rear. Has anyone else here had this problem? My parents beagle did something similar, and they took her to the vet to drain the anal sacs. However, when I press around Skye's anal sacs (I know this sounds gross... but my dog health book said to see if it feels hard around the sacs...) I do not feel anything abnormal. She is due for a check-up soon, so I plan to ask the vet, but I am wondering if anyone else's pit exhibits this type of behavior.

Hey Tara....I'd suggest mentioning it to your vet. They could be bothering her, but not yet so impacted that you'd notice through touch. Butt scooting is pretty much THE sign that the anal glands need expression. Here is a website with some information (I found this site a month or so ago, and I really like it a lot for health info!!!): www.marvistavet.com/html/body_anal_sacs.html

Anal gland problems are quite common in many types of dogs. I have to express my pit bull's, my foxhound's, and my parent's German Shorthair mix's.
Your vet can show you how to do it so you don't have to pay to have it done every time. But believe me, you'll want to wear gloves!

My female pittie mix used to need it done, but doesn't anymore for some reason...
My friend's male English Bulldog needs his done frequently, and yes, you definitely want to wear gloves!
