Hey, I was wondering what you all think should be included in a contract when purchasing a pup from a reputable breeder?
I know there should be a guarantee against hip dysplasia in the first 2 years. And also a guarantee against birth defects and health issues due to genetics (Seizures, Heart Issues etc.)
What else should be included in a contract and what should a buyer watch out for?

Pups should be kept with their mom until they are 12-16 weeks of age. The pup should be fully vac DHPP shots since pits are very susceptible to parvo.
In the contact, I would make you have the right to euthanize if the dog is human or strongly dog aggressive. In general a breeder should know their line but once in awhile an improperly balanced dog can be thrown from previous generations. Grandfather or grandmother.....
Depending how the breeder houses the dogs, I would ask to see if the parents have been babesia tested. If the dogs are housed outside, PLEASE ask if the dogs been tested. We are seeing more and more babesia (tick borne disease) in pits where ticks have access to the dogs. People who have greyhounds and hounds should demand this test also.
Babesia spreading across the US like Lyme disease. Please educate yourself on the disease,

There shouldn't be time limits on the health and temperament issues. A dog can't even be OFA'd until he hits two years (although PennHip'd sooner).
I'd like to see a general contract that says you can get a refund or replacement for genetic diseases or serious temperament issues. One that says you can keep the dog (or euth if necessary) is even better.
