Oh goodness, I really hope she isn't pregnant. That would be so sad. I can't believe she still has her tags! My parents just had a dog dumped at their house on the 6th and he still had his collar but no tags. Very strange that she'd still have her tags. I hope you can catch her soon, it sounds like she is beginning to trust you more. Keep us posted.

I also found it strange! I really think I probably spooked the people off before they got a chance to remove the collar. When I get my hands on her perhaps (Due to the tags) I will be able to report to the police who her owners were! The cop that came to my house to talk to me about her was really heartbroken as well...He tried getting her to come to him and it broke his heart when she took off.

I know of a rescue that when trying to capture a roaming stray beagle (that would also run when anyone appraoched it). Well, after leaving out food and knowing the dog would return to eat it they put some tranqulizers in the food. Beagle came by, ate the food and they just followed him froma distance until he got sleepy and laid down (then scooped him up into a crate and off to the vet's office). I hate the idea of drugging animals, but now that dog is in a happy new home (with a high fence!).

I know when Chub's allergies are very bad, the benedryl I give him knocks him sideways (not completly out, but he mostly just wants to lie down and sleep). Maybe you could talk to a vet and let them know the situation? Probably the vet you took Boomer to because then that vet knows you aren't some crazy person asking for drugs but a real and responsible dog lover just trying to help.

The only problem with that is, if the animal falls asleep somewhere that you can't find it, other wildlife may kill it. That'd be a whole new problem on top of all the others! Poor pup...

I was thinking the same thing. I know that Diphenhydramine which is the Active Pharm. Ingredient in Benadryl can sometimes have the opposite reaction in dogs as well, and make them hyper. Best to contact a vet in terms of what meds to give.

I asked my vet about a sedative for when we drive 16 hours to PA for our move. She recommended benadryl over a prescription sedative. She said that type made the animal pee a lot. I'd think a dog peeing more than normal would attract other animals to the area.

True enough, guess it is a hard call on what to do about that poor pup. Guess you could just keep feeding it and maybe make it a make-shift shelter and hope it learns to trust you (which sounds like its is begining to do). I'll be praying for the safety of that pup

This little gal is so very lucky she was dropped where she was! Imagine if she were near people who fear pits or don't understand the patience this will take. She could have been hurt or even killed so easily by someone who didn't want a pit bull around. Amy Jo, keep up the good work! It sounds like she is slowly but surly trusting you!

I have not been able to get in touch with the DNR-No one is returning my phone calls so my dad is going to see what kind of creation he can come up with. And I am going to call the vet and see what is available medicine wise.
I have noticed that she is less afraid of Gustavo. When he goes outside, she lets him get closer. Today I actually thought she was going to walk up to him. So we are going to start trying to get her to come up to him. He is outside a lot this time of year taking care of our yard and things so I think that it is more likely for her to accept him. The way she acted today, maybe we wont have to trap or drug her...Fingers crossed.

Well…DNR does not allow public to use traps…God knows why. And I haven’t seen her for two days. I find it really unsettling. I do not understand where she is and I fear the worst. She was really starting to trust Gustavo. He was starting to get pretty close and she was sleeping in our building night and day and she kept her tummy full. Her food has remained untouched and we have not seen her. This time of year is farming season and I am SO afraid that a farmer shot her. There are tractors in every field around us. We have drove around all the roads in our area and looked in the fields and ditches (In case she got hit and watching for her) But we haven’t found a clue. I pray she is safe. I hope that she will return.
