My APBT, Boomer has been itching his back legs all the time. He has been itching them so much that his legs have bald spots on them. I took him to the vet to be sure it was not mange and the vet scraped his skin and his skin is fine. My vet recommended using Oatmeal Shampoo to prevent itching and dry skin, but it doesnt seem to be helping, now that we have been using it for 2 months. I was hoping to find a better shampoo that would actually work or any tips would be helpfull!! Thanks

This might be a diet issue, and not something that can be remedied by shampoo. What sort of foods/supplements is Boomer getting?

You can add up to 1000 mg of fish oil per 10 lbs. of dog. Start with just 1000 mg and go up slowly until you get the desired results without diarrhea.
My dogs are also having major issues this winter with dry skin. They are rarely outside, but we have forced air heat. You can also try running vaporizers and humidifiers to add moisture to the air. We sleep with one on every night.

I will try the fish oil supplements. My vet told me it was because of dry air and it is common in inside dogs during the winter. We have a humidifier I dont know why I didnt think to put it out! Boomer is eating Iams Healthy Naturals. I just feel so bad for him always biting at his back legs! He looks pitiful!!!

You can also try Solid Gold Super Sen Gelle shampoo. It's good for sensitive skin!

If the other suggestions don't work, try changing foods. Go to something high quality with few ingredients, like Canidae or Innova

Now that I switched Boomers food to Canidea, he has been itching a lot less and has hair growing back on his legs!!! But it says on the bag to feed them a cup of food 2 times a day. I have been doing that but now he always seems hungry! What do I do, feed him more?

I think the recommendations on the backs of dog food bags are really just suggestions...I never follow them exactly, only use them as a guideline. I let my dog tell me. I know what weight I want my dogs maintained at, and adjust the food intake accordingly.
