Okay the lady who was terrified has pet my dog but another neighbor told my husband that the WHOLE STREET is afraid of my pit bull, and they "have to go by what they here on the news". Can someone PLEASE help me in how to deal with them, present facts, get them to meet my dog, etc... PLEASE HELP.

Are you in general friendly with your neighbors? Maybe take the ones you know specifically a little packet - some cookies and/or coffee + basic APBT stuff?
The best thing you can do is just show your neighborhood how wonderful your girl is by showing a well-trained, in control dog in public. IMO, people who will be closed minded won't be swayed by even a gesture like the above mentioned. Sometimes you have to just let your dog's actions speak louder than words.

P.s. I am JUST about ready to print some little colorful brochures that will be quick-reading, fact-focused and perfect for situations like the above when you would like to hand out material. They will be available for download from my website. I'll post a notice on the forum when they are here.

that would be wonderful! please let me know... the neighbors here are VERY friendly and talkative and they always say hello. it absolutely breaks my heart when people don't like her because she is SUCH a mush and an angel. I feel like my child is being picked on, and worse, I always have this awful fear that someone will try to hurt her or lie about her. I would also like to be able to work with you on her dog excitement issues in a few weeks rather than later because that's what I think will cause people the most concern. Almost EVERY house has a dog... a husky, a standard poodle, a chihuahua, a lab, the only one that is cool with pit bulls is a state trooper/marine who has a rottweiller down the block and he says he faced the same thing. It's really scary!

Hm, that is a good one. I have 3 pit bulls and walk them all 3 together. I have had many people ask me how I keep them all in control and from fighting each other. There is alot of stero-typing in the world.
It is also very interesting to watch people at the Animal Orhanage. I know of at least one vol who is excellent with shepards and rotties but seems to freeze up around pit bulls.
I think education is the best thing and just talking to people.

Do you ever get insulted? i feel like someone is being mean to my kids! The only thing that I can hang on to is knowing that if I am polite to the people, they can't say that I'm some stereotypical "pitbull" owner!
