Well guys…Lately Gustavo and I have been talking pretty seriously about bringing a Pit Bull back into our lives. We have Marley but you guys know how it is…Its just not the same without a Pibble running around! Anyways…Our vet center always has lots of dogs there (Strays) and last week the vet called me (We have been talking about working together to have some kind of a rescue-He knows Im a Pit Bull person as well…He was Boomers vet) and said that there is a beautiful Pit Bull thats deadline is quickly approaching and wondered if I was interested in taking it in and either adopting it or try placing it into a permanent home with someone else-All the staff does not want to see this dog euthanized because of his wonderful temperament. So me being me I had to go meet this dog (Hey! Its been a LONG time since Ive played and been able to enjoy a Pit Bull). As soon as I met him I was in aww! He is such a beautiful Pit. He is exactly the way I think a Pit Bull should be…He has (IMO) a perfect athletic build. He is a little guy…I thought Boomer was small…This guy is full grown and barley HALF the size of Boomer!!! He has a perfect Pit Bull personality…Lets just say his kennel has a top on it because the vet staff learned the hard way. I threw a Frisbee around for him and let me tell you…that dog can jump and run!!! He is very fun to play with. So far he has been fine with other dogs of both sex and has shown no interest in cats (Ignores them). I have visited him 5 times-Gustavo came with me today and he also really liked him…I swear, He played like a kid with this dog!!! When we went today we brought Marley with so they could meet each other through the fence- At first they were both very curious about each other and a little hesitant but in a short amount of time they were running with each other through the fence and both were doing many play bows...I think it went very well. Gustavo and I are considering spending some more time with him (Getting to know him better) and possibly adopting him. I am hoping you guys will all give me some honest input on this idea since Marley is also a male. I am going to go see him tomorrow and I will try to get some pics of him. Let me know what you all think! Thanks guys!

Do what feels right for you and your family. I have 3 males, 1 pit, 1 lab, 1 pug. It has worked for almost a year with no serious issues. Winston has never gotten pissy or snapped at either of the other dogs. The same can be said with the other two...aside from the lab giving off a leave me alone go away grumble about once a day. Let Marley and the new guy play and see how it goes. You'll know if it's right or not.

It's super late and I'm sure others will help you weigh out pros and cons a little better, but my 2 cents is:
Be prepared for the absolute worst. Never leave them alone together. Have a break stick just in case. Decide if C&R is something you can manage. I know you know what it's like to have a dog with DA issues, so at least it would be nothing new. My only worry is that one fight could be too much since Marley is not a big dog. You could always foster to adopt for awhile to see how it goes. This concludes my practical answer.
My emotional answer says to adopt him so he doesn't get euth'ed. This is why I have 3 male Pit mixes. They were all about to be put down. Does C&R suck sometimes? Yep. Would I give any of the boys up? Nope! Am I a complete sucker? Yep!

Amy Jo, I think you have really good judgment and would not get into anything you know you can't truly handle. You also know all about DA, C&R, et cetera. You're a well informed, experienced, responsible owner and if you and Gustavo feel that this little guy is right for your family, then I say go for it.

You are educated, you want to make the right decision, you know the breed, you are prepared. If any same sex placement can work, this one can! ;D But I do totally agree with the "worst case scenario" advice.

We went yesterday and I spent an hour there today. Marley and him played today and seem to click…Lots of zoomies! He loves my daughter (Surprise, Surprise…Typical Pit Bull!!! ) Gustavo could hardly hold him back yesterday because he wanted to kiss her so much. I think I am going to foster him and see how things work out from there. He is not yet neutered so the Center is going to neuter him, flea dip him (They have found a couple fleas), and vaccinate him then he should be good to go!! Rich (The vet) thinks he may have separation anxiety-Not bad just whining, drooling and panting so I am trying to prepare for that before I bring him into our home. I am ordering Rescue Remedy but is there anything else I can do to make him feel better?

This is very exciting. Will you crate him? Benny had slight separation anxiety and I used to put a blanket over his crate and play a book tape for him. That worked well, so perhaps it will work for your new pibble, too. I hope you will have pictures to show us soon!

I just got to reading this. This is the type of situation I dream of. The dog comes to me. You can foster without any stings attached that is awesome. You make the rules and decide weather you keep him or who adopts him. Cant wait to see photos. Good Luck with your rescue. Hope it just falls into place. You will be fine.

Good luck Amy Jo! Be sure to keep us updated and be sure to post pics of the new addition.
As far as the separation anxiety I use rescue remedy and or the DAP spray in her cage. ALso, just ordered the calm shen so waiting to start Harley on it. I even play music for her for what it is worth...LOL

I love the DAP plug in with Chubs, also I've heard good things about leaving the talk-radio stations on.

Thanks guys!!! And Christina- Yes he would be crated. I am a firm believer in crates especially having 2 cats and another dog in the house. Marleys crate will stay in my bedroom, the Pits' crate will be in the spare bedroom and when we are both away from the house the bedroom doors will get shut and the cats will get run of the house. I have only had experience with Rescue Remedy so I am definetly going to be looking into the other options. I am not too concerned about the SA. It sounds pretty mild and I think (hope) that with some meds and sometime to adjust it would improve more. Sounds like sometime next week he may be coming home with me!!! I will post pictures soon...I promise! I say that everytime but when Im there I always forget!!! LOL! I will put a post it note on my forehead tomorrow.

He reminds me a lot of Boomer-Looks wise! I have to keep reminding myself that he is a completely different dog. We had fun with him today, we took him on a little walk around the vet center with Marley and played with him in the fenced in area.

I was going to also say he resembles Boomer in the eyes especially but did not want to bring it up so since it has been brought up I sure agree with that. How did the visit with Marley go?

At first I didnt think it was going to work because they were both acting so excited that I couldnt tell if they wanted to play or fight but when they settled down and actually got close to each other they both played and played. They click!!!
