Today was the first time I ever saw a dog fighting situation first hand.
This morning I was doing errands and I was in town all morning so at 12 my stomach was rumbling…I went through a drive through at a fast food restaurant then sat in an old parking lot and ate…This parking lot has an old alley with an abandoned warehouse right beside it. As I was eating I noticed 5 guys standing in the alley, I thought they looked like they were up to no good but I kept my doors locked and just watched (They didn’t see me, there were other cars in the parking lot). Then another walked up to the group, this guy brought a Pit Bull that was muzzled and on a chain. A few minutes two more guys came walking Pit Bulls. All 3 Pit Bulls had awful cropped ears (Practically no ears at all) and were lunging at each other…The guys were laughing then went inside the abandoned warehouse. I got out my cell and called the police....Turned out that one of the guys was from Texas and had a warrant for his arrest. The Pit Bulls are currently at our vet center (The guy with the warrant was not allowed to have pets and the other guys surrendered immediately).
This is such a small town that I still can’t believe that I saw such a thing. I never really thought that dog fighting existed in this area… It broke my heart .
I talked to one of the officers (A Pittie lover himself) and he said that this town (Which used to be all Labs and Goldens) has now become 90% Pit Bull and it is leading people with the wrong intentions here. Responcible Pit Bull owners need to keep their dogs inside unless they are right there with them.
I no longer know if I could run a rescue like I hoped to do Those dogs, they are imprinted in my mind. It is honestly so disturbing how little one can care about another living creature. I don’t know if I could face that kind of stupidity and ignorance every day without ending up in prison myself (For the dog fighters sake ). To all of you involved in dog rescue and face these kind of situations daily, I tip my hat to you.
