Our summer of adventures with wildlife continues. I usually get all the pups out for their last potty before bedtime no later than 10pm. Well, we had really bad thunderstorms yesterday and I could only potty them when there was a break in the downpour. The storms cleared out after 11:30pm, and I took Otis and Dharma out together. This is a perfect example of why I always take them out one or two at a time! They immediately raced to the other side of our yard, obviously chasing something. Thinking it was a rabbit, I ran after them to drag them back to the house. Nope it was a skunk. And I got to them just in time to get sprayed. Long story short, the skunk got Otis directly in the face and chest and of course he's the one with the very sensitive skin. So he broke out in nasty blisters and his eyes were almost swollen shut. All three of us have had several hydrogen peroxide/baking soda baths. Otis went to the vet to get a steroid shot this morning and the swelling is completely gone. But OMG, we all reek! Luckily it's a nice windy day so we opened all the windows. I couldn't even go to work, I smell so bad.

Yeah, the tomato thing is a myth. The hydrogen peroxide and baking soda solution works pretty well.

Yeah add a dash of dish soap to the hydro perox and baking soda mix. The dish soap removes the skunk oil. Yeah mythbusters proved that was the only mix that worked. However noticed the tecnu soap www.teclabsinc.com/products.cfm?id=2F5604C8-9D05-4675-56129F6D83DF2417 stuff my son uses to remove poison ivy says it also can work on skunk stink on pets. Dont recall the myth busters testing the stuff so dont know if it works. I suppose it works like dish soap removing the oil. I was also told my son should try washing with dish soap next time he gets exposed to poison ivy. So try adding some dish soap to that mix.

PS if I remember correctly dawn is to be the best to add to de skunk solution. Yep, that's exactly what we used. 1 quart hydrogen peroxide, 4 tbs baking soda, 1 teaspoon dish soap. I was actually pretty impressed with how well it worked. Nothing can get rid of the smell completely, though. Ick.
