Spindletop is in Texas. They are one of the oldest if not THE oldest orgs. They don't get much press because they are too busy with dogs to be chasing after celebrity! They need a good PR agent, as they really are fantastic and VERY knowledgeable about the breed. (They rescue other breeds, as well, but of course APBTs are their # one).

P.s. Leah from Spindletop is registered on this board, although I haven't seen her on here in ages.

Hi All, Ok, I am new here, and I wanted to post about how fantastic Spindletop Rescue in Texas IS. I got all 3 of my pit bullies from Spindletop, since year 2000. Leah is fantastic, she is soooooo knowledgeable about the breed, and Am Staffs and other breeds too. She has been rescueing the breed since she was a teenager and not stopping yet ........... Leah has been of the greatest assists to me in understanding and knowing pit bullies. She makes it her business to find out as much about the adopter as possible so she can best match up the dog to be adopted to the adopter. As I've adopted 3 pit bullies from Leah, I will tell you that each one was my dream dog. First I got Morgan Freeman in 2000, what an outstanding dog she was. In my 40 years involved in dogs, Morgan was the best dog I have ever owned. I lost her in April this year to GME , a horrible disease for which the cause is unknown. Morgan had personaltiy plus plus plus, she was highly intelligent, my best friend, and a "baby sitter" dog for my next pit bully from Spindletop. This was Stevie Wunder, a silver brindle, born blind, he came to Leah from another rescue. She spent boodles of money helping him recupe, and then I adopted him. Stevie was also super special, he was the bravest, most courageous bully boy ever. He was never afraid to go anywhere, and I actually traveled with both Morgan & Stevie Wunder in 2004, for one month, we went from Wyoming to Spindletop and we stayed with various friends along the way, all having other breeds, horses, cats, kids, you name it. Morgan & Stevie were perfectly behaved, everyone loved them no matter where we went. They were role models for the breed and showed people how intelligent and friendly pits bulls REALLY are ! Then, in 2005 Leah brought me Pablo pit bully boy all the way from Spindletop to Kentucky. Pablo was another perfect pit bully boy and I loved him to bits, the same way I loved my Morgan & Stevie. Morgan & Stevie slept on my bed together, never showed any aggression towards each other or towards anyone or any other animal , ever. I lost Pablo to a Pituitary Gland tumor (brain tumor) in 2006, only 14 mos after having got him. He was a joy to my heart from day one to his last day when he went to heaven in my arms. Now I've lost my beloved Stevie Wunder 5 wks ago. Stevie had been having seizurs for a year, and then he tore the ACL's in both his back legs (had already gotten the seizures under control), and we (my Vet & I) found out Stevie has Osteoarthritis in his front legs & spine. He had never show any signs of pain, no lameness, no stiffness, no whining, he never complained, then when he tore the ligaments, we Xrayed him and it was just too much for Stevie to endure. His pain level was out of site, and so he and I went into the back room at my Vets where it is quiet and private. I layed a blanket & my jacket down on the floor and wrapped Stevie in it. I layed down next to him and wrapped myself around him, and he fell asleep, snoring, in my arms. He went to doggy heaven in my arms, the way they all go as I won't have it any other way. My tears have not stopped, I am totally devestated. Now I'm going to adopt 3 more pit bullies from Leah at Spindletop and I am so anxious to have them with me. There will be GiGi who is a pup that had been beat with a bat, and she has lost an eye due to that. Then there is Jerome who is a Katrina survivor who lost a leg due it not being taken care of at a Humane society (you call this humane??), but Leah got him and took him immediately to her Vet and the leg had to be amputated as it couldn't be saved. Then there is Patches, another Katrina suvivor, she is 7yrs old and unlikely to get adopted due to her age. So this will be my new pit bully family that I will loved to bits, too, just like I did Morgan, Stevie & Pablo. Of all the breeds of dogs I have ever owned & loved, pit bulllies are my all time favorite. Beloved Bullies here in Kentucky

Thanks, Melinda, really appreciate your compassion. My life will never be the same without my beloved pit bullies, they are so special and unique. My home and heart are empty without a pit bully here. And, I do so much love my GSD, Jake and Sweetie Beagle, too, but they are just not a pit bully.............I KNOW you KNOW what I mean.............
